No matter what I do, the background colour of everything I make remains white. I’ve changed my background colour in the customisation menu but nothing works at all. I’m sure I’m getting something wrong being a newbie but still… Thought this would at least be simple!

Thanks for writing in! That background color option under X -> Theme Options -> Layout and Design
Will only apply when you set a boxed layout.
To change content background, edit your page in Cornerstone, select a section and then you can change the section background color.
