Automatic updates don't work

Hi there,

i had problems before with the automatic update. I do not get an update notification that there might be an update available. See screenshots. I know that i can update manually but what is this feature for if all it does is tell you that there is a new version available.
This is the same reason why i was so far behind last time because everything else was up to date since all oterh plugins and themes gave me a notification.

Hello Atahualpa,

Please try to revoke the validation then revalidate your site. Here are steps in Revoking a license:

If you are not seeing the revoke validation option on the top of the page, try scrolling to the most bottom part of the page.

I revoked the licence and even deleted the site from the licenes.
I then reactivated the site for the licence and validated the licence again.
I still don’t get a update notice. Just the inof in the X dashboard that there is another version available.

I have the same issue and would like to know what to do about it.

Hello @AtahualpaSeyffert,

Thanks for updating the thread.

I checked the website and it seems that you have a multisite setup. I suggest you to please take a look at following thread regarding automatic update on a multisite setup:

Thanks.

Hello @Finestcityimprov,

Please try out the solution shared by @Jade and see how it goes. In case problem is still there, please create a new ticket and share the necessary details in the same for us to take a closer look.

Thanks.

It’d be so nice to not have to manually update the theme every time. This is something that’s really been quite annoying lately

Here’s to hoping that the wider use of Pro encourages you folks to work on a solution!

…I’ve read and realize that you folks hadn’t thought about MultiSite development when planning X. BUT, Pro is so recent. I find it hard to believe that not one person considered what would happen if Pro was used in a multisite environment. hah… that is, unless you didn’t write the Pro code from the ground up, and simply recycled X. but, let’s hope that isn’t the case

Anyhow… I manage and maintain several multisite installations, with well over a dozen premium themes. I find it super odd that X & Pro are the ONLY themes that have issues registering an ability to update from within the Network site, or even any sub-site for that matter.

Hi @splaquet,

It’s not that we’re skipping or turning a blind eye about it. It’s a bit complex and needs more planning. In comparison with other themes like Wordpress hosted themes, automatic updates will work even if the themes are inactive because it’s the Wordpress itself is the one performing the update checks. Hence, it will work on both single and multi-site, inactive or not.

While with our theme hosted on us, we need to tell Wordpress if the update is available. And to do that, the update checker should run and it’s part of the theme. And if the theme is inactive, the update checker can’t run hence, no update notification or automatic update.

And with multi-site, the theme is only active on the site where it’s activated and not on a multi-site level. But we can’t host our theme on Wordpress.

Thanks for understanding.
