Assigning A Pro Layout To Specific Pages

Hi,

I am having problems working out how to use the new Pro Layout and assigning a layout to a specific page.

In Layouts I have an Archive layout, imaginatively named “Blog Layout” which has the conditions - “Blog is being viewed”. This is active on the main Blog page.

However, I have a separate page which should only show posts which are in the post category “Press”. I have created a second archive layout called “In The News” which has the conditions “Post type is post” and “Post category is Press”.

I then have a Page called “In The News” to which I would like to assign the second layout noted above. How can I do this? I can find nowhere where the layout can be chosen and assigned to the page in question.

Any guidance will be gratefully received!

Thanks,
Christopher

Hello @cdnwhite,

Thanks for writing in!

When you create a layout, you’ll be presented what type, whether a single or archive layout.

If you selected archive, your custom layout can only be used in the blog index or archive pages such as the category, tag, date, or author archive pages. You cannot use it as a custom page layout. It is best that you create a custom page layout using the Content Editor.

If ever you want to assign the “In The News” page to use the “In The Press” custom archive layout, you will need to go to Settings > Reading > Front Page Displays and assign the “In The News” page as your “Posts Page” so that it will become your blog index and then it will display post items using the “In The Press” custom layout.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi Ruenel,

Thanks for the clarification. I had not appreciated it is effectively one version per archive type. It makes sense now.

Many thanks,
Christopher
