Asking other users... Do your video backgrounds playback seamlessly?

Hi,

I’ve recently changed our animation studio sites home page, so we have a full-page video background at the start. It looks cool and works… but typically the playback is a bit stop-start for the first few seconds. So I’d like to refine that if possible. It doesn’t seem to matter if I’m on regular or very good bandwidth.

It may be due to other bits loading further down the page… i.e. essential grid. (Maybe it’s time I swap that out for a grid using Pro).

But I wanted to ask if the source I’m using for the video background is best.

I’m using Vimeo as the video host, and then using a full HD video ‘file link’ as the address I give the section background. There is a ‘HTTP live streaming’ address you can use but that won’t load the background when pasted in for the Background video address. The advantage of that would be it downscales the resolution of the video depending on the users bandwidth… but equally that could look pretty bad.

I’m assuming self hosting the videos for the background of the site would be a bad idea.

Thanks for any insight.

Hi @draper3000,

Thanks for reaching out.
There is only one option for showing the background video in the section. That is using the URL, it might be hosted in the same hosting server or you can host into any other place and use the URL of the video. You can also host the video in any of the hosting platform providers like Vimeo or Youtube and use the specific URL for the background video.
I would suggest you go through the following article on using the Youtube or Vimeo over self-hosting.

Hope it helps.
Thanks
