I am an artist with a WP (genesis) site that I want to redesign–and am considering using X to do so. I am in the middle of preparing a website brief for the feeling and functionality I want for the site. In the meantime, I would really appreciate seeing examples from designers who’ve created artist websites using X, and why you feel X was a good choice. Thanks in advance for your help!
I’m not a developer, so I"m not certain how useful my information will be, but I"m also an artist who used Genesis and decided to switch to X for my own site.
I believe developers like Genesis because it has a robust architecture with a lot of room for expansion and back end customization without interference from a style sheet, plugins, or java. Its special attraction seems to be its published hook structure, which allows a lot of modification from the function page, and active user forums. However, for someone like me who knows only css and html, it’s very difficult to use.
Many of the Genesis child themes available have an inconsistent css structure too, which can lead a user like me to plow through the architecture trying to find exactly which css style sheet applies to what, or worse, having to dive into php trying to ferret out exactly how inline styles had been placed in that structure. Those that specialize in Genesis charge more per hour (as they should for custom work).
Again, this probably won’t help with a grant, but hopefully a nube answering a question will attract others who actually know what they are doing.
