Anchor links not working from mobile menu on Chrome after updating to X 7.2.2 and Cornerstone 4.2.2

Hi. I’m running X theme on https://mosaicchristiancounseling.com/ . After updating to version 7.2.2 of X and version 4.2.2 of Cornerstone today, anchor links didn’t work from the mobile menu on Chrome. They worked on Firefox and Edge, the two other browsers I have available.

On Chrome when I clicked on an anchor link in the mobile menu, even though the correct URL containing the anchor link was displayed in the browser window, it didn’t take me anywhere. At this point, if I clicked the reload button, I was taken to the anchor location. The same thing was happening on both my phone and my desktop computer when using Chrome and the mobile menu.

Clearing Chrome’s browser data fixed the problem on both my desktop and phone. However, website visitors should not be required to clear their browser cache in order for the mobile menu to work properly. According to the changelog, X version 7.2.0 and Cornerstone version 4.2.0 addressed “a handful of browser specific bugs”. Perhaps the changes that fixed some browser specific bugs introduced a new browser specific bug.

The version of Chrome on both my desktop computer and my phone is 80.0.3987.132

Thanks for your help!

Darlene

Hi Darlene,

I used the Chrome browser and I have never visited your website. The result was a correct menu with no problems. I am afraid, if you have cache system on your website you need to clear cache to be able to have the latest version.

If you used a Cache Plugin please contact the plugin developer to ask how to do so, if you do not have a cache plugin please kindly contact your hosting service provider and ask them clear cache from their side to make sure the latest version of the website will be forced to load.

Thank you.

I had cleared the cache on the website using the SG Optimizer plugin prior to encountering the problem I described with the mobile menu. Clearing Chrome’s browser cache fixed the mobile menu’s behavior.

Since the mobile menu was working properly before installing the X theme and Cornerstone plugin updates, and since those updates included code changes that addressed “a handful of browser specific bugs” according to the changelog, those updates quite likely caused the browser specific bug I encountered, even if you did not encounter the same problem when you visited the website from Chrome.

Could you please forward this issue to the developers for further investigation?

Thanks,
Darlene

Hey There,

Caching is something that is browser and server specific, we have no way to prevent or force refresh cache so there is no work around to this. Previously visited customers who still have old cache will most likely not experience this issue as local cache has an expiry date so the problem is only existent on a short transition window. I’ve checked your site on several chrome emulators and did not experience any issues which confirms the caching situation. Hope that helps!
