Alternative for fontawesome, maybe IcoMoon?

After 90% Redesigning of our site I am looking at performance now. Since the design uses < 10 icons, including font-awesome libraries seems quite overkill. I only included brands + solid, but these still use about 220 kB

For most pages, this is about 25% of the page load… Looking at alternatives, IcoMoon seems to use a lot less.

  • Would IcoMoon be an option? Is implementation via e child-theme an option?
  • Are there other “simple” tricks that I missed to get font-awesome on a diet?
  • Are you perhaps planning this type of optimization for a future update? Redesign of theme options?

Your insights are welcome.

Thanks for writing in!

1.) There is no option to add Icomoon icons to the theme. You may need to use 3rd party plugin instead.

2.) No tricks. Our only option is to enable only the font awesome (solid, light, regular, or brands) needed.

3.) What we can do is to add this as a feature request so it can be taken into consideration for future development

Using another plugin is not really an option, I’m trying to lose as many plugins as possible…
Adding it as a feature request would be best I guess. Although it should already be there, reading through other comments on the forum.

Considering the high class of X-pro, the “fatness” of font-awesome is not really 2021. Slicing it into 4 parts helps of course, but as stated before adding 220kB to all pages just for < 10 icons does not complement the great features and possibilities of X-pro.
