After update, You do not have permission to inspect this element type ... has returned in 2024

Hi there, after upgrading a site to the X theme version 10.4.10 and Cornerstone 7.4.10, I am getting an error when I try to edit content. The error is “You do not have permission to inspect this element type.”

I am able to edit any other design element, column and section size, footer content. But I cannot edit core site text. This is a major problem that I need to resolve ASAP. I really appreciate any help.

A past forum member had an extremely similar problem in July 2023. For them, it seemed to be a persistent caching problem. I have already turned off all plugins and tested, and purged caches from Cornerstone and from browsers. I have also tried editing in multiple browsers, without success.

Hey @emilyc15,

Thanks for writing in!

You are seeing the error message because you are using the classic elements on the page. By default, they are turned OFF. You will have to go to Cornerstone > Settings > Permissions > Administrators > Elements and make sure to turn ON the “All Classic Elements”.

Best Regards.

Thank you. I have made this change and cleared my caches. Unfortunately, when when I try to edit content, I am still getting the error “You do not have permission to inspect this element type.” Is there anything else I can try to fix?

Hey @emilyc15,

I found out that you were using the Content Area element which has been deprecated and disabled by default.

Kindly enable them so that you can edit those elements in the builder.

Cheers.

This has worked, thank you very much!

You are most welcome.

Hi,

I have tried to recreate the demo header Osborn Optics, and when inspecting the navigation modal element of the demo that I downloaded, I am getting the same error described here. Any possible solution?
Cheers.

Hi @TechnologyOne,

The probable solution has been given by my colleague in his reply. If that does not work for you, please create a new thread and share the login credentials for your site in a secure note to examine it further, including:
