After update to WP 5.5 some pages can not be edited in Pro and are broken

After update to WP 5.5 some pages can not be edited in Pro and are broken.

One of the broken pages looks like this:

And the pages that are still ok looks like this:

It´s “only” around 8-10 pages that are broken of our approx 200 pages. But it´s quite random and therefore a bit scary.

It’s our live site so any quick insights would be really helpful.

Thanks

Ok, it was urgent. So we ended up restoring our entire site from a backup.

Hi @filecamp

Great that it resolved at your end, here WordPress upgrade can be the reason for this issue, we are currently testing our themes and plugins with the updated version of WordPress, theme and bundled plugins will be released after it has passed our test.
Please check the version compatibility page if the latest versions of plugins are already available.

WordPress 5.3 is the recommended version and the one we currently support.

Thanks

Probably you should update your docs? How can a recommended version be newer then the supported one?

And by the way… there was not a single update since march 13, while in the meantime Wordpress is on version 5.5, WooCommerce on 4.3.2 and WPML is on 4.3.13.
Added to this if you release such a big update there are for sure a lot of new bugs. Probably some small updates would be better.

Yes, it is a bit buggy with WP 5.5 and the Pro theme. Most things are working, just have to be extra careful, apparently :scream:

I wasn’t aware of the supported vs. recommended WordPress version issues. I thought we should keep everything updated

It looks like a plugin I necessary to prevent WordPress to update automatically. Which one does Themeco recommend?

Best,
Jesper

Hi @ERES ,

The supported version is more like stable version, which users can safely use given with the already released plugins and theme. While the recommendation is just for general advice depending on which plugins or theme are installed (versions), and it may have a different and unknown effect depending on the setup. For example, on my installs, I have 5.5 but the builder works okay.

In every update, there will always be issues and sometimes it’s not because of bugs, but just with the updates breaking the data, customization, and so on. That’s why we highly recommend testing the update to staging, a separate copy of site before jumping right into it on a live site.

A downgrade is only a recommendation since it’s a live site, and that’s to prevent unknown issues popping out caused by updates. It’s not necessarily that 5.5 is not supported, but we can agree that many are affected, other themes and plugins as well, not just ours.

Though with our theme and builder alone, I can say it works in 5.5 so it doesn’t need an update as for this moment. But with 3rd party and bundled plugins, it may be different since they are developed by other authors, hence we don’t have control with the bugs present on their plugins, all we could do is to test and provide the updates that they will forward to us. If you’re unsure of the plugins, we recommend staying with a supported Wordress version.

Thanks!

I understand. But how do I prevent our WordPress to update automatically in future so that we can stay on the supported version? Is there a plugin for this that Themeco recommends?

Best,
Jesper

Hi Hansi,

Please check this resources on how to turn off auto updates on WordPress core version with or without a plugin help.

https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-disable-automatic-updates-in-wordpress/

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

Thanks a lot. We have now installed the “Easy Updates Manager plugin”.
