After a few years of no Upgrades, upgrading cornerstone from Version 4.1.2 crashes my Page

A few years ago, I created a website for my client. Now, their provider is charging monthly service fees for a PHP version below 8.0. After updating all other plugins and WordPress, it seems that only Cornerstone is causing issues for me. With Cornerstone deactivated, everything seems to work fine. However, when I activate it, PHP stops working, and if I try to update it, the site crashes.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

I read there might be a Problem upgrading from such an old Version?!

Thanks in Advance
Claudi

Hello Claudi,

Thanks for writing in! Are you still using the PHP 7.4 version or have you already updated the PHP version to 8.x? If you are already using PHP 8.0, please deactivate the Cornerstone plugin and delete the old version. Download the latest X theme version and update it manually. You can use this guide here:

Once you have updated the latest X theme, you can install the latest Cornerstone version bundled in that theme.

Hope this makes sense.

Thank you for your response.

I’m still using PHP 7.4, and I’m unable to update PHP or WordPress because my website crashes due to cornerstone. Even after following your instructions, which include downloading XTheme 10.x, deactivating CS, and manually uploading the new X theme version, I still end up with X theme version 7.x. Upon activating CS, it remains at version 4.x. Although the download indicates it’s version 10, it doesn’t function as expected.
What could I be doing incorrectly?

Hi Claudi,

What I suggest you copy your live site to a staging server and update the Cornerstone.
And if everything goes fine in your staging, please migrate the staging server to live and try to activate the license once again.
Please note that as you are using a much older version, you may need to create a few pages from scratch.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

@tristup thank you for the idea with the staging server. i am not sure how i should proceed after setting it up though.
can you refer directly to my problem, i described?
i download the Version 10 of X, but after installing it, it shows me version 7, i think thats why i also only get the CS Version 4 after telling Xtheme to download the CS Plugin.
Someone still needs to explain me how to install the XTheme 10 and CS 7 properly…

Thank you in advance

Hello Claudia,

Just simply go to Appearance > Themes. Temporarily switch to the TwentyTwenty Theme (or another theme) and then delete the X theme. Go to the Plugins section and deactivate the Cornerstone plugin too. Delete it after. You can go back to Appearance > Themes and install the latest X theme version. The latest Cornerstone plugin should be installed automatically as well.

Best Regards.
