Admin pages load slowly intermittently

Hi, this may not be a theme problem, but maybe you can help. My host (Siteground) and I are stumped. My admin pages are loading very slowly on an intermittent basis. The page will go to white and you can see the timer wheel spinning. Usually it’s the dashboard or plugin list page, or updating a post. The front end is fine. I’ve tried disabling plugins, modifying limits in the htaccess, debugging, etc. One diagnosis for this problem was to change themes, but I have a X child theme and can’t use a different theme. (I can try fixes on a staging site I’ve created if you think that might help.)

Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks.

Thank you for the very detailed information. We highly recommend that in your staging site, switch the theme to Twenty Twenty theme and have another round of test. It could also be caused by a plugin conflict, amongst other things. Please check out this troubleshooting article here and follow the instructions for the following sections (where appropriate) while using the Twenty Twenty theme:

  • Testing for Plugin Conflict
  • CSS/JS Customization
  • Increasing PHP Memory Limit
  • Disabling Cache
  • Disabling CDN
