Admin crashes when trying to edit page after theme update to 3.1.1

Hi, I just updated wordpress to 5.3 and have updated X-theme Pro to V 3.1.1.

Since updating to V 3.1.1 there are two bugs with the admin:

Issue One:
I can not view the page editor in the Wordpress admin.
I can edit the page content in the Cornerstone editor with no problem, but if I want to open the normal wordpress page editor from the list on the Pages admin page, the browser window goes white and nothing is displayed.

Issue two
If I do edit the page content in Cornerstone, when I select “exit to dashboard” the admin crashes and displays a blank page.

In both scenarios, the only way to recover is to re-enter the url [mywebsite.com/wp-admin] in the browser, to access the admin again.

I need to be able to access the wordpress page editor. Can you advise the problem and solution please?
Garreth

I just checked the Cornerstone plugin itself, to double check that is up to date. However, it says “activate” in the plugins page, which would indicate it is not activated.

Strange because I can access cornerstone on my pages and edit them.
When I clicked “activate” I got a fatal error. It seems it is already activated because the error points to an existing file in the server.

Message:
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Fatal error: Cannot declare class Cornerstone_Plugin_Base, because the name is already in use in /var/www/vhosts/concordlocksmith.com.au/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/cornerstone/includes/utility/plugin-base.php on line 6

Hi Ben,

Thanks for reaching out. Good to hear you were able to get it working. I did login and check your site and see that Cornerstone was installed. I’ve deleted it since it is not required for Pro. If you ever switch to X, it will prompt you to reinstall. Pro includes all of the Cornerstone functionality built-in. We would like to have done this in X, but ThemeForest guidelines dictate it should be in a separate plugin.

Let us know if you need anything else!

Hi, you missed the point of my message. it doesn’t work.the message says fatal error!
can you please check the issue again.

Hi @Eulogise,

To clarify, that fatal error was coming from Cornerstone - that is why I deleted the plugin. You should not try to activate Cornerstone. It won’t work because all that functionality is included in Pro like I mentioned above.

Your site was working when I logged in earlier. I just checked again and it is still working. Please advise if there is anything else you need assistance with here.

Ah now I understand. So that has fixed the fatal error, which was incidental because as you pointed out, Cornerstone is redundant with Pro installed. I didn’t realise that before, so thanks for advising on that.

However the actual issue is not the fatal error, it’s that the admin crashes when I try to edit a page by clicking "edit’ and using the wordpress native page editor, rather than ‘edit with pro’ to open the Pro page editor.

  • Go to the ‘Pages’ link in the admin.
  • in the list of pages, click ‘Edit with Pro’ and the Pro editor opens.
  • In the side menu of the Pro editor, click ‘exit to dashboard’ and the admin crashes.
  • Re-enter “site url/wp-admin” in the browser to recover the admin.
  • Go to the ‘Pages’ link in the admin.
  • in the list of pages, click ‘Edit’ and instead of the WP editor opening, the admin crashes.

Prior to the update, I could choose the ‘edit’ option and open the wordpress page editor. There I can use Yoast to manage my SEO settings. Now I have no way to work with Yoast, because I can only open the page in the Pro editor.

Could I ask you to look at that please? It seems like a bug caused from the theme update.

Thanks

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the walkthrough, your Wordpress is missing a few important files;

Please reinstall your Wordpress, you can follow the Reinstalling WordPress from the Dashboard guide provided here (see the bottom section of that page). To play it safe, don’t forget to backup your site before reinstalling Wordpress.

Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!

Hi, so it was the wordpress update, not the x-theme update. Sorry for that. I had the host company who did that update check their work before posting this thread, but it looks like they’ve missed those files. Thanks so much for debugging that. great service.

You’re very welcome, Ben. We’re happy to have helped.
