ACF Pro file field only returns ID in Essential grid meta

I have set up a custom field in ACF pro.
Field type: File
Return value: File URL

If I insert a shortcode on my page, I get the URL of the file as expected.
I am trying to use this as a link to the file in Essential grid however.

In Essential grid settings I have added a reference to the ACF handle.
I can select this in the skin but the link returns the file ID instead of the URL. It seems that the alias does not respect the “return value” setting in ACF pro and only returns the ID.

Is this a bug and if so is there a way around this?
Thank you.

Hello @mkt1,

Please do not use File Type. It is better that you use the URL instead.

I have made some changes and now it is displaying correctly.

See the secure note below.

Thanks.

Hi, thank you for your help.

However, as I explained in the secure note this solution does not work for me (unless I’m missing something?)
If my custom field is just a URL, than my clients will have to go to Media > select pdf > copy link > go to presentations > select presentation > paste link. i can not sell this as being user-friendly.

What I had made is a custom post type where the client types a title, selects a featured image and adds the pdf and they are done.

I don’t understand why this doesn’t work as it should.
“Return value: File URL” does work as a shortcode so why is not available in Essential grid please?

Hello @mkt1,

I have investigated and I suspect that this is a bug in the latest release of the ACF Pro plugin. I’ve submitted this to our issue tracker so the developers will be made aware of it.

Please bear with us.

Thank you for investigating. Is there a way to test this with a previous version of ACF pro perhaps? I don’t have a lot of time to fix this…

Hi @mkt1,

If you have the older version of the plugin, you can test with the Essential Grid plugin.

Thanks

I don’t have that, no. I was hoping that you did.

Hello @mkt1,

We don’t have an older version of the plugin at the moment, you may ask the plugin author for an older version of the plugin.

Thanks for understanding
