404 redirects to 404-2

I have used the custom 404 extension from you and created a 404 page and thought I had linked the two up. Unfortunately the page I have created has had the permalink renamed automatically to 404-2 and this is messing up the RankMath 404 tracker so I don’t know what errors I am getting.

Have you any idea how I could solve this little niggle?

Hey Richard,

The renaming of the slug to 404-2 is a built-in function of WordPress and not of themes and plugins. You can try that out in a fresh WordPress install with the default WordPress theme.

You will need to hire a WordPress developer to override the said functionality and especially for the integration of the page with RankMath.

Our 404 extension simply uses the page you set as the 404 page and is not connected with the slug.
