3rd level sub-menus show fold (cross) icon instead of unfold (arrow down)

Hi team!
A client site has a 3 level primary menu, on the designed header using successfully a Navigation Inline element for larger viewports and a Navigation Collapsed within Navigation Off Canvas for viewports 1200px and down.

The issue I face is obvious, folded submenu shows a cross (close/fold) icon instead of the usual arrow down (open/unfold), this happens for both states folded/unfolded.

I’ve inspected all suitable fields and setting and found no immediate solution.
Any icon related selector shows arrow down, as expected.
