2 pages, different style

Can anyone explain me, why this page is looking different from the other sites?

Wrong Page:

Correct Page (for example, like all others):

Both are using the same “standard-template”!

Hey @Regnalf,

Issues like that are usually caused by broken HTML mostly. I checked the source code of the broken page and there is a broken HTML. The validator just can’t pinpoint exactly where so what you can do first is to check if the issue is coming from the content by duplicating the page and test the duplicated page by removing the content.

If the page is fixed, check the HTML you’ve added in the content area. Remove sections one by one while checking if the issue persists each time if necessary.

If the page is still broken even after you’ve removed the content, find what’s unique between the broken page and the correct page. It’s possible that a 3rd party plugin might be doing something on the broken page only so please try deactivating all 3rd party plugins to quickly test this.

Only if none of the suggestions help, please provide the following info in a Secure Note.

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin level username and password

You can find the Secure Note button at the bottom of your posts.

Hope that helps.

I’ve tried out what you suggested, but nothing helped.
I created even a new page with no content and the issue appears again. The w3c validator doesn’t show significant errors between https://www.selbsthilfe-niere.at/videos-neu/ and https://www.selbsthilfe-niere.at/galerien/

I’ve provided login credentials above.

Thanks for your help

Hello @Regnalf,

I have investigated the issue and I found out that those pages who has a broken header has the one page navigation active. Please edit those page and in the WP editing page, find the Page Settings and deactivate the One Page Navigation. To learn more about this One Page Navigation, kindly check this out:

Best Regards.

That was my first guess too, so I checked it before contacting you. The new page I have created definitely does not have the “one-page-navigation” active!

See https://www.selbsthilfe-niere.at/videos-neu/

And there is also no page content that could influence the layout.
Any other clues?

kind regards
Regnalf

Hey Regnalf,

Upon page inspection I see the one page navigation active on that page however in page settings it is disabled. Another thing I noticed is that two different header layouts are being used on these two pages (stacked and inline).

As a test I exported your videos page template and created a new page and imported back the videos template and the new page works fine (see secure note)

That page could be corrupted, you can simply remove this page and use the new page. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the in-depth inspection of the site. And yes, the “video 2” page looks correct.

Unfortunately, the problem still exists with newly created pages, and there are several people in charge of page creation who don’t have that much technical experience.
First of all, there is the question of how the “one-page navigation” can be active, as well as the stacked and inline header when only the standard header system is used. (no pro header or footer).

I had also suspected the “uber” menu in, but that doesn’t seem to be it either.

Any further advice? Creating new pages with a template is not the optimal solution!

Hi @Regnalf,

Can you please copy your live site to a staging server so we could troubleshoot freely without breaking your live site.
Give us access as you did for your live site.

Thanks

Staging Server is ready:

Hey @Regnalf,

I got the header working in your staging site by downgrading WordPress to version 5.3. 5.3 is the recommended version and the one we currently support, by the way.

This is only happening in your site though most probably because of some unique configuration of your server. I can’t pinpoint what though as there are no specific errors that have been generated. Posted in the secure note is the page in your staging site with broken header. After downgrading to WP 5.3 and updating the page, it got fixed. The issue doesn’t persist when creating a new page also.

Please do the following in your live site.

  • Downgrade WordPress to version 5.3 using a plugin like WP Downgrade
  • If that doesn’t help, downgrade PHP to version 7.2
  • Downgrade Pro to the stable version. You can find the download button in your license page.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advanced debugging first. Didn’t think that the bug had anything to do with the version of WordPress. Usually it’s always security first, so update, update, update.

But I’m glad that something was found that caused the bug. Maybe it helps you to make pro fit for the newer versions of WordPress.

Let’s see how far I can fix it on the live site, because there are some plugins running and I always have my fears about downgrades.
But thanks again for your great support, I will discuss this with my customer now.

With best regards

Regnalf
