art2mediaParticipantHi,
do you plan to integrate X with the WordPress site icon API?
I like the possibility to add an icon and let WordPress handle the rest.

DarshanaModeratorHi there,
Thanks for writing in! WordPress core functionality will be theme independent and don’t require theme support. So you can use core features as you would like according to your requirements.
Thanks!

art2mediaParticipantThank you Darshana,
but I think not in this case. Example: WordPress default themes (newest Twenty Seventeen) let you customize “website information” in customizer. There you will find “site icon”. But this option does not exist in the customizer of your active theme.
Instead, there is “site icons” with favicon, touch icon and tile icon. I think it would be better for user experience to include the core site icon API instead.
Or is there another way to set it through the WordPress backend?

Paul RModeratorHi,
This is something we can add to our list of feature requests. This way it can be taken into consideration for future development. All of these items are discussed with our team internally and prioritized based on the amount of interest a particular feature might receive. Thanks!
