Good Day!
Our first project using Theme X
None of us, amateur or pro will sit and bash other themes, but Theme X, very much the future of wordpress! #HereToStay
Would love feedback, positive AND constructively critical negative!!
If anyone has any ideas on speeding up the page , we do embed quite a bit of youtube, soundcloud, and external video, and wondering if that’s having and impact (already using a cache plugin)
ALSO, we dont love the menu on mobile, its a little bit too light, any suggestions?
Thank you so much!!
September 22, 2014 at 10:19 pm #110307Hello X-themed designers, for my first X project, I built http://www.shipstones.com to support my brother with his latest craft ale venture in the UK. If you are living in the UK, please do go onto the beer finder, and especially onto one of the cask ale festival finders to find your local stockist and go for a beer, and if you have any relation to Nottingham, why not get one of our t-shirts to support us – as we’re a long long way off making a profit.
We’d really like lots of feedback on the website, so please write to us using the comments page on the website. Thank you very much in advance for any help you can give me.

Best Wishes,
Si
September 23, 2014 at 12:19 am #110336Hi Raphael – Thanks for the kind words…we are indeed #HereToStay 🙂 The site is coming together nicely…I actually saw the person the site is about on the news a couple nights ago! From a performance point of view, be sure you’ve read through our Knowledge Base article on performance as it has some tips and insights for getting started with many of the user side performance tweaks.
Hi Simon – The site has a nice, structured feel to it and I love the color scheme! Not sure where those lines are coming from to the left of many of your chunks of text, but I would look into having that removed as it makes the text a little harder to read. Thanks for sharing your work with us!

September 23, 2014 at 11:22 am #110733@ Raphael,
If anyone has any ideas on speeding up the page, we do embed quite a bit of youtube, soundcloud, and external video, and wondering if that’s having and impact (already using a cache plugin)
The homepage, depending on how its tested, is between nearly 5 and nearly 7 MB (!) in size; so, first and foremost, it is important to have realistic expectations as regards speed.
Immediately Actionable Items:
1.) If you don’t intend on using Slider Revolution extensively, get rid of it. It will add at least half a second of load time to every page of the website. Further, due to its idiosyncrasies, a lot of basic, front-end optimization best practices have to be foregone just to suit it.
2.) Your website has 6 blocking script resources and 12 blocking CSS resources. This causes a significant delay in page rendering. Combine your CSS files into one; your .js files into as few as possible. Generally, with the X theme, all.js
files exceptjQuery
,/x-head.min.js
, and/x-shortcodes-head.min.js
can be combined and moved to the footer. All of this can be accomplished via W3TC.
3.) 3rd Party Resources and Render Blocking Scripts: Sign up for CloudFlare and make use of their “Rocket Loader” feature. Rocket Loader will combine all of these resources – including inline scripts – and defer them until your content loads.
4.) Implement DNS prefetching.^…There’s quite a bit more, but I imagine these will keep you pretty busy for awhile.
More information can be gleaned from your site’s test results, here.
Best,
AJ

Thank you so much! So helpful!September 24, 2014 at 3:35 am #111250Hi X Men and Women, the showcase sites here are truly inspiring and great examples. I’m half done with this site and would like to gather some feedback for this page http://ilike.sg/services/.
Is there a better way to organise the information on this page instead of in columns? Don’t really want to use accordion to minimise the number of clicks. Any feedback most welcome! Thanks in advance!September 24, 2014 at 3:48 am #111256@ jasksks
Great site – nice and clean. I would try the “promo” boxes on your services page with an image at the top of each to help break up your page and create an interest point/teaser each topic.Regards

September 24, 2014 at 6:37 am #111341Just published the first site i’ve made for a local bakery. Still have some work left regarding new images of products but it might take a while til I get those photos so I will update those as continually. I’m mostly unsure about how to approach how to approach performance and SEO but I would love any feedback or constructive criticism!

September 24, 2014 at 10:27 am #111524Quietly putting my personal sites back up, all done with X, in a multisite setup:
- http://biancawelds.com – Main personal site and blog, done with Integrity light child theme
- http://poetry.biancawelds.com – Self-explanatory, poetry site, done with Icon child theme
- http://projects.biancawelds.com – Home for showcasing projects (won’t all be online), done with Icon child theme
The second two sites took about 3 hours total to customize. I am loving X!! Overall, I still have a todo list of tweaks for all of them, but I’m thrilled with how easy X makes it.
September 24, 2014 at 1:10 pm #111632William – Coming together nicely…noticed a broken image above Icon Plastics on the homepage (about half way down).
AJ – Appreciate your contributions (and your site is looking good too…and super fast). I can see you’ve spent some time optimizing for performance!
Beau – Very creative work! I like the narrow content area.
Jasksks – That is a good suggestion from Beau. I might also think about positioning the menu a little more in the center of the nav area as opposed to the bottom. Liking the icons in the navigation!
Oliver – LOVE the site…very clean and wonderful presentation. It’s amazing what a nice logo, good creatives, the right typography, and the proper layout can do! I might try to optimize the images in that slide a bit as it took a while to load, however the overall look/feel of the site is very clean, functional, and engaging!
Bwelds – Thank you very much! That’s incredible that you were able to build in just a few hours…we look forward to continuing to impress and are thrilled to know X is making your web development journey more enjoyable!
September 24, 2014 at 1:32 pm #111647Thanks for the suggestion, Kyle! Much appreciated advice!
September 24, 2014 at 5:55 pm #111839My pleasure!
