My site concerns books and for a while after a new book releases there is a flurry of blog posts about it (new reviews, wins an award and so forth). Is there a way to display specific blog posts on a single portfolio item? I would prefer through a Cornerstone element similar to Recent Blog Posts. Recent Blog Posts doesn’t have quite enough functionality and limits returned items to 4. If the book wins 15 awards I want to list them all. 🙂 Sometimes books are reviewed years after release and so the concept of “recent” doesn’t quite fit.

I could have an “Award” section for the element
Posts that are TitleofBook category and tagged “award”
    Similarly “Review”
Posts that are TitleofBook category and tagged “review”

Or have I missed something incredibly obvious already available in the interface? Again, I’m looking to do this on a single-portfolio-item.

Help very much appreciated, I’ve been whacking my way around this idea since I started trying to update my own site weeks ago. I know more so I think I’m asking the question more clearly.

I’m using Integrity Light demo 5. If another stack would do this please point me that way!

    Hello There,

Thanks for posting. What you want to achieve is possible using BLOG post. Create a blog category review and award. Then assigned specific blog post. For display, we can filter it by category:http://theme.co/x/demo/integrity/1/shortcodes/recent-posts/

If you want this to implement with Portofolio, that will work too. Just also create a each blog post/review/award as portfolio item and assigned it to specific portfolio category. For the display, create a Page > Under Page Template > Select Layout portfolio > then we can filter the display per category (Award/Review). This display will lists all and not limit to 4.

    Hope this helps.

I think we’re at cross purposes. I can already display my blog posts tagged “Review.” I don’t want to create a Portfolio page for Awards and Reviews. I want to display blog posts about a book on the relevant book’s portfolio page.

Currently, in Cornerstone, the only element I can find that interacts with the blog posts is “recent posts.” I can add it to the individual book’s portfolio layout and specify the category name. (See picture.) (The portfolio post for the book is also displaying as a “recent post”, but that’s a different issue.)

My question is if there is a CS element that will retrieve blog posts, not just recent ones, and more than 4?

Otherwise, and your solution seems to get at this, I would make blogs to send to my followers about new book details, and then, by hand, update the portfolio item for the book with the new information. That’s the inefficiency that such an element would avoid.

I see. Regretfully this isn’t a feature offered by X. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You might want to contact our trusted partners who caters X setup and customization needs. Please see https://community.theme.co/custom-development/. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities. Thanks for understanding. Take care!

Thanks, I’ll stop hunting within the interface for it.

Might I suggest this as an element that could be developed and broaden the capability of the portfolio functionality? Finds post-type by category and/or tag?

Frankly, I thought this functionality was how the demo was operating, and if I’d realized that with the exception of shared media/attachments I’d be unable to retrieve data from other WP tables into the portfolio custom page type I’d have probably made another choice. Storing the same data in two different places is contrary to good content management practices. But for now, I can make the recent posts element get some of what I was hoping to display through Cornerstone, but I might also see if I can work out a php solution.

    Hi,

We certainly appreciate the feedback! This is something we can add to our list of feature requests. This way it can be taken into consideration for future development. All of these items are discussed with our team internally and prioritized based on the amount of interest a particular feature might receive. Thanks!
