I just installed the latest version of Visual Composer and now I have this error message.

“Fatal error: Call to undefined function x_visual_composer_templates_id_increment() in /home/homerfund/homerfoundation.org/wp-content/themes/x/vc_templates/vc_row.php on line 81”

I was told that my theme is not compatible with the latest version of VC. So, I went to update my child theme

    I am running X – Child Theme: RenewVersion: 1.0.0

This update further broke my site.

I really need step by step instructions on how to fix it.
    Thanks,
    Kammi

    Hello There,

    Thanks for writing in!

Please note that a child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality of another theme, called the parent theme. In that regards if the parent theme is not compatible with plugin update, automatically child theme will have the compatibility issues. We request you to please delete the plugin and reinstall compatible version of Visual Composer.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

So how do I know what version of Visual Composer is compatible?

    X – Child Theme: RenewVersion: 1.0.0
    By Themeco

Make all of your modifications to Renew in this child theme.
This is a child theme of X.

    Hey There,

Visual Composer v4.11.2 should be fully compatible with X theme.

If you need any further help, please send us your admin credentials in a private reply.

    Thanks

    Hello Kammi,

    Thanks for writing in!

Upon checking it looks like you are using 4.12 version of Visual Composer. Please note that the supported version of Visual Composer with X is 4.11.2. We request you to please downgrade and install the compatible version.

    Thanks.

Why is it always so complicated? I used to love WordPress, now I am beginning to loathe it…

    Hi There,

Please follow the instructions recommended by Prasant.

Uninstall Visual Composer than go to WP-Admin Dashboard Addons and Install the version available there.

Let us know if you face issues after that.

    Thanks

    Joao

    Hi there,

Your X theme version is 1.6.0 and quite old, updating it to the latest will surely break it. Updating is not as easy installing a new version, you should consider that data, settings, and other stuff that aren’t compatible with the latest.

Your WordPress is updated to 4.5.3 which will make it worst, 1.6.0 is not fully compatible with it. All the latest plugins will not work on your very old theme. For now, please install the visual composer that comes with X 1.6.0. Don’t install the latest VC yet.

Then, hire a developer that can help you migrate from very old theme to the latest (plugins comes last when theme and settings are done). Migration to newer version includes settings and data correction, compatibility checks, and code fixing. We can only help you in some areas as we don’t do the installation, update, and version migration.

You should test and do update on staging (clone of your live site). That’s the safest and we recommend that.

    Thanks!
