ManeconsultingParticipantHi,
I have a background video header on each page of mane.com.au
I have uploaded webm, mp4 and ogv video files to ensure the correct video is shown on each internet browser. But some of the browsers are not showing the videos.
I have placed the webm file in place and then added the urls of multiple source files with a pipeline between them.
Sometimes the video’s are slow in other browsers too. Please help me or offer up suggestions on how to make all videos work?
Seems that chrome is recognising the website as if it was a mobile site and not showing the video at all and showing the plain blue background.
Wordpress Version 4.7
Version 4.6.4 Themeco X Theme
Thanks,

RadModeratorHi there,
Thanks for posting in.
It’s playing on my chrome. Would you mind providing a screenshot of your Chrome Developer Tools’ console?
It plays right away on my view.
Thanks!

ManeconsultingParticipantHi Rad,
Thank you for getting back to me. Seems like there is a bit of a of an error based on the screen shots of the console on developer tools. What does this mean and any ideas how to make this work universally for everyone.
I have sent the url to a few people and some can view on chrome and some people can’t view it.
Really appreciate your help. Thank you.

RadModeratorHi there,
Thanks! I;m not getting that URL on my console. But that means it’s media/video isn’t initialised properly. Are you on a hybrid device? Like desktop or laptop with touch feature? Because even if it’s a desktop or laptop, the video will still not play if it has touch feature. Most mobile devices now surpass desktop resolution, hence, harder to identify since both categories have higher resolution and touch feature.
Thanks!

ManeconsultingParticipantYes. It is a touch screen laptop. What is the solution to this? What have other people with this problem done? Is there any way we can have a still image in place of the video when people view this on a mobile/touch screen device?

ChristopherModeratorHi there,
Some feature may not work on mobile devices. And hybrid and touch devices are also considered mobile by default. You should try disabling your hybrid device’s touch feature.
Thanks.

ManeconsultingParticipantThanks.
Any fix within the theme or tips on those with touch screens seeing the videos?
More and more laptops are becoming touch screen, seems like that their should be a simple solution to allow these desktop users to see a more aesthetic website, rather than only allowing them to see static background images or background colours.
Any further tips would be appreciated?

Ieuan

ChristopherModeratorHi there,
Mobile intentionally disable autoplay for videos, you don’t want your visitor got data charges over your videos. Videos are playable through user’s interaction, like tapping. But there is no way to tap a video when it’s applied as background. What you could do is add poster image, and poster image will be displayed on mobile where video is not playable.
Laptops with touchscreen are currently treated as mobile device so the background video won’t work.
Thanks.
