taxwebmasterParticipantWhen we purchased X through Themeforest, I was assured by them that I could use X on multiple sites on the same domain (sales.company.com, service.company.com, products.company.com, etc.). I currently have X installed on one site, and plan to deploy it to other sites within the same domain soon. We are a government agency with high security concerns, so we work in a dev environment, then test in a testing environment, and finally deploy to the production environment. X is, of course, installed on all three of those.
All of this means that it’s very difficult to manage our X license, especially doing updates to the theme or plugins. It can take me an hour just to update one site–I hate to think what it’s going to be like once we’ve deployed on all of our sites.
I understand your need for protecting your product as well as some of the technical limitations with managing licenses in WordPress. But my question is, is there any way for me to have X installed on all of our sites, in all three environments, without having to constantly juggle the licensing?
On a side note, X passed our security scans wonderfully, with no vulnerabilities found! Great job!

RupokMemberHi there,
Thanks for writing in! You can validate a development site along with your live site. So technically you can validate two sites with a single license. I believe it’s fair enough to allow a staging site for development purpose.
However if you use subfolder like company.com/sales instead of sales.company.com then you can validate more site with the same license for main site. Since sub domains are considered as individual domain; you can’t validate multiple.Hope this makes sense.

taxwebmasterParticipantIssue One, regarding subdomains
Thanks for the fast response. On the issue of multiple sites, you’re saying that I need a separate license for each subdomain (sales.company.com, service.company.com). I specifically asked this question at themeforest when I bought X, and the response I got was:
“You need one license per main domain. If you are using WP multisite to run multiple subdomains under one domain, you only need one license. (For example, product1.mysite.com; product2.mysite.com; product3.mysite.com.)”
To further clarify that, I asked:
“It’s possible that we won’t be using WP Multisites. So we might have separate installs of WP, but we will still have product1.mysite.com; product2.mysite.com; product3.mysite.com, etc. So will we need separate licenses if we’re not using WP multisites?”
The response came back:
“As long as it’s all on the same domain, a single license is fine.”
So my question is, Can you please confirm that themeforest was wrong and that I need to buy a separate license for each subdomain?
Issue Two, regarding dev/stage/prod servers
I’m glad you allow us to have a dev domain and a prod domain; that is very helpful. But is there a way to also add a stage domain to a license, eg., dev.company.com and stage.company.com and company.com
Thanks a lot. Again, I’m very impressed with the features of X and your great customer service.

RupokMemberHi there,
Thanks for updating. Let me clarify a bit. Your are quoting about the support from Themeforest and they are right about using the theme on the sub domains. You can install the theme there on sub domains as it’s not the end product, no issue. But our validation is a different thing and it’s not mandatory for the Envato market (Themeforest) rather an extra option by Themeco. We provide this option so that our customers can easily update everything right from the dashboard. If you notice it’s not same as other themes out there and you will need to manually download and install updates for other themes or products. I believe you are already aware of this if you are a regular customer of Envato. So apparently the validation process is Themeco’s own process and it doesn’t rely on Envato as it’s an extra feature by Themeco for the ease of our customers.
And as said earlier, you can validate a development/staging site along with the live domain. So technically it’s two.
Hope this explains better.

taxwebmasterParticipantOkay, that makes sense. In that case, I’ll probably be purchasing extra licenses from you to make the updates go easier. I prefer supporting your development efforts anyway, rather than worrying about penny-pinching!
You guys really do have a great product and great service.
