    Hi there,

For SEO reasons, I’d like to use oembeds for the video content on our site rather than iframes which are still difficult to get indexed. Even Yoast requires oembeds for video SEO. However, I can’t find a way to make oembeds work with Cornerstone. Is there a Cornerstone element, a shortcode or a workaround to get this? Or is there another way to make video embeds indexable without giving up the Cornerstone building facility? Thanks.

    Hi there,

Thanks for writing in! You can try using the RAW Content element.

    Cheers!

Hi there, yes, I tried the Raw Content element but when I pasted the video url there, it didn’t call the video, it simply displayed the url on the front end. Are there any instructions anywhere for how to use the Raw Content element to make oembeds?

    Thanks.

    Hello Again,

Please try to use the embed shortcode:

    [embed]http://www.your-video-url.here[/embed]

    Hope this helps.

Yay! That’s great! It’s playing in the Raw Content element. However, the Raw Content element seems to have become an iframe. Is this a function of the [embed][/embed] shortcode? And will it be crawlable by Google? If Google can index this, the problem now is working out how to make the player fit the element (or the element default to the same height as the player). It’s got big black bands top and bottom of the player that are messing up the page layout. I’ll send you my credentials if you’ve got a moment to take a look. Thanks.

    Hey Simon,

Please use the Embedded Video element for Youtube or Vimeo videos or the Video Player element for videos hosted on your site. That is so your videos will be responsive. We cannot guarantee the videos to be responsive using other methods.

Google will still see the videos in your site even if it is not powered by oEmbed.

The WordPress shortcode will convert Youtube videos to an iframe or Youtube embed. Please see the links below for more details.

If you need advanced Video SEO controls, you will need to use a plugin like Video SEO by Yoast.

    Thanks.
