I have inherited an old project that stalled for a few years. It currently runs on:

    Wordpress 3.1.4
    X Theme 1.8.0 (Integrity Light)

I have bought a copy of the latest X theme in the hopes of updating both X and wordpress. After installing the theme new theme and copying the files that looked relevant over, the site still looks very different from the original.

The old x theme integrity-light.css is at: /wp-content/themes/x/framework/css/site/stacks/integrity-light.css
The new x theme integrity-light.css is at: /wp-content/themes/x/framework/css/dist/site/stacks/integrity-light.css?ver=4.6.0

I have tried copying the old css file over the new one however nothing changes. When I remove the “ver=4.6.0” from url, the css file contents are completely different (more like the old integrity-light.css). Changing the url in the inspector results in a page that looks more like the old site, but is very broken in terms of layout.

Is there a straight forward way to update from the old theme to the new theme?

A second question I have is that I am currently testing on a test subdomain domain. If I validate the theme on that subdomain, will I be able to transfer the license over to the production subdomain?

    Thanks

Please ignore the second question. I read the FAQ.

    Hi there,

Thanks for writing in! As we’re currently on X theme v4.6.0, there are so many changes done during these updates. X shortcodes plugin not in use and we have introduced our newly built Cornerstone plugin as a visual page builder.

One option would be to setup a brand new installation using latest X theme and related plugins (https://community.theme.co/kb/version-compatibility/) and then import your Posts and Pages to that setup.

If you’re updating from an old version, make sure to take a full backup first. Then you can manually update your theme and plugins (https://community.theme.co/kb/updating-your-theme-and-plugins/). Make sure to delete X-shortcodes plugin and then install Cornerstone plugin.

Let us know how it goes.
    Thanks!

Hi Darshana. Thank you for your advice. I have decided to go the route of updating as we have so much work done in Visual Composer that turning back now would take too long.

Can you help me understand what is happening with the CSS? How come appending a version number to the url results in a different style sheet being loaded. It as almost as if it is being parsed by the server? How would I load a custom stylesheet instead of the one that is loaded with the updated theme?

Looking in the inspector, both sites are loading integrity-light.css but the look quite different.
