i took over a project and bought the X license. I will make a backup and I will update 1.8.4 manually to current (because there seems no other option from that version).
should i expect to rework all the pages upon updating the theme?
will the Customizer still be working if i export and import (in case custom modifications are lost)?thank you for help

RahulModeratorHey There,
We recommend you to kindly take a backup of whatever you have on your site before making any changes. Updating doesn’t do anything with your current data, however at safer side, you should take backup first.
Hope you’ll be fine with it.
Thanks.

solint2016ParticipantUpdated to latest manually without problem. (yes complete backup was made)
BUT it seems there’s still the problem with Visual Composer that doesn’t load the content of pages and spin endlessly – nothing is editable.

RadModeratorHi there,
Since you updated your WordPress, theme, and plugins from very old version. Then probably, your old contents might have the problem with the new version. You should’ve cloned your site as dev site, and work on it. Once all are fixed, you can then move it live. Version gap can cause issues during the update, hence, not really advisable to do it on a production site. And
Your visual composer isn’t loading because your old content contains incompatible elements with the latest version. You should manually update your content but that means working with text/standard content. Unfortunately, I can’t tell which is causing it. You could restore your site from your backup and work on a dev site.
Thanks!

solint2016ParticipantThank you, I understand..
But why when i create a new page I still can not use Visual Composer?
Nothing gets added to the page when i click shortcode elements from list, and on top of it, since there’s literally no old code on new page there must be something else causing the problem? right?edit: php is version 5.4.x is this a problem?

how can this be true when new pages are created there’s no old code on them and yet the Visual Composer doesn’t work.
Thank you

FriechModeratorHi There,
Updating from version 1.8.4 to the latest version is kind of a long jump (no guarantee that it will go fine). So we strongly advice that you do the update first on a staging server. This means that you’ll leave your live site for now, and duplicate it to a sub-domain then do every update needed on that staging environment first, when everything is well, that is the time you wipe-out the live site and migrate the updated staging environment to that live domain.
You can duplicate your live site or you can start a new site on a staging server, upload a latest x|theme, manually configure the customizer, and recreate your pages in Cornerstone. This way you can have everything updated and avoid complication.
Currently, you have 3 versions of x|theme on your site which kind of messy. And latest version of WordPress requirements is PHP/MySQL 5.6.
Thanks.
