    Hi There,
This is just a general question about updating plugins. My websites, all using the X Theme, are indicating that there are plugins that need/have updates. How do I update these plugins that come with X when there is no update to the X Theme. I’ve tried updating the Rev Slider, and it didn’t work after I updated it. I had to restore my site to a previous version, and then all was well.

I am very reluctant to update any plugins that come with the X Theme but are also available ‘outside’ the X Theme.

    Please advise. . .
    Thanks very much!

    Best Regards,
    Nancy

    Hi there,

Thanks for writing in! First of all, you can refer to our knowledge base section to see the latest version numbers (https://community.theme.co/kb/version-compatibility/).

Then make sure that you have validated your site (https://community.theme.co/kb/product-validation/).

Finally you can head over to Dashboard -> Updates section withing your WordPress backend and select the plugins you want to update (https://snag.gy/kv6xmU.jpg) and then the plugins will be updated automatically (https://snag.gy/UeSmbN.jpg)

In special cases like you have mentioned in Revolution Slider; if it is a major version update or if you’re experiencing any issues when updating the plugin, you can always export your current sliders (save the backup of your sliders) and then you can delete the plugin, re-install the latest version and import your sliders.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello Rahul,
I read through the page you sent, and it did not really address the issue. Case in point, I have a site that was built using Visual Composer (before X came out with Cornerstone), and it needs a Visual Composer update. I went to the plugin page of the site and clicked on the link associated with the plugin that said, “Got Visual Composer in a Theme?”

    Please see this page: https://wpbakery.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=524337

To quote them: “How to update and receive support if I do not purchase direct license?
In such case you need to wait on your WordPress theme author to update Visual Composer on their side and push it to you. Also support related questions should be addressed to your WordPress theme provider.”

My question to X is, When are you going to provide the updates to Visual Composer and Slider Revolution . . . which has the same issue?”

And just so you’re aware, to go to the updates page and update the plugins all at once is just asking for a disaster. Each plugin has it’s unique quirks etc. which makes it very unwise and ill-advised to to do bulk plugin updates.

    Thanks for your response.

    Regards,
    Nancy

    Hi Nancy,

Although it is possible that in isolated cases the plugins, like Visual Composer or Slider Revolution fail to work as expected after the update, it is not the common rule, these plugins usually will be updated and are expected to work just fine.

The risk increases if for example you had a very old Visual Composer and are jumping few versions, and we do reccomend you always backing up your site before performing a major update.

All our plugin updates are heavily tested before being release, if you notice we are almost always a version behind during a while because of the testing period.

Would you mind pointing the specific pages where you are experiencing the issue on your website?

    Thanks

    Hi Nancy,

That makes totally sense and the reason is as mentioned before, there is a window between the plugin developer releasing the plugin and we releasing it because we need to test it and make sure the new version works fine with X 🙂

You can always follow the updates available on our changelog.

    Thanks for your response Joao.

Yep, checked the change log(s) a few days ago. . . nothing regarding these two plugins.

Could I make a request for the development team to look at updating Visual Composer and the Rev slider in the next version of X?

    Thanks again
    Have a great day

    Regards,
    Nancy
