Hi there,

I am unable to update my theme X. I have recently changed domains and read that I needed to change the domain name associated with the API key. I have since done this but it still says I can’t update it, and it needs to be validated?

Hi there,

First try to update your X theme & Cornerstone plugin manually (https://community.theme.co/kb/updating-your-theme-and-plugins/) and then you should be able to validate your purchase. You can check the latest version numbers from here (https://community.theme.co/kb/version-compatibility/).

Hi there,

So I am unable to loggin to my FTP, so ill have to do it the other way and delete the theme and reinstall it…. I’m just scared ill lose all my settings and have to spend ages redesigning my site?

Hello There,

Your hosting providing should have a backup feature. You might want to ask assistance from your hosting provider so that you can revert to the backup if something happens during the updates. I would recommend that you create a staging site. This is very useful because you can test drive any X updates in the staging area, do the customizations and troubleshooting without disrupting your live site. Once everything is perfect, you can easily and flawlessly proceed the update in the live site. To know how to create a staging area, please check out these articles:

If I delete the theme and reinstall it, what happens to the child theme. Or is that just linked to whichever x theme is installed?

Hello There,

As long as all of your customizations were placed in the child theme, you have nothing to worry about. Deleting and re installing X theme won’t do harm in your site.
