acr0b3rtsParticipantHi. Can’t activate. Get error “Uh oh, we couldn’t check if this license was valid”. Have bought a license and assigned it from the account control panel. Help.

RahulModeratorHey There,
Thanks for writing in!
Please try re-validating your site by following the link mentioned below :

Hope this helps!

acr0b3rtsParticipantTLDR; Oh so you just want me try again? Well, suprisingly, that didn’t work. You could have verified this yourself, since I’ve provided you with the login to the site.
OK, so I need to give you a whole lot of feedback on this:
1. It didn’t work. I went to the theme’s add-on page and entered the purchase code again. Same error. Have you actually changed anything on your end, that would make this work, or are you hoping that it would just work all by itself? I’ve already tried multiple times.
2. I may have missed it, but I couldn’t find any link in the article you refer to – it just describes a process that I’ve already been through (as previously stated).
3. This method of support, whilst I’m sure is effective for you, is a pain for me (the customer). I can’t easily find my thread again (I had to search for it) and I got no notification that there was a reply on my thread (is there somewhere I can set this up?). Seems you need to work on this.
4. This is a show stopper (I have NO extensions) please help me resolve the issue with more helpful input.I’m a bit disappointed and also frustrated – the quality of support doesn’t seem to match the quality of the theme.

ChristopherModeratorHi there,
I’m sorry you still experience difficulty for validating your product.
To re validate your product follow the steps :1] Please go to X Addons > Home and revoke the validation (https://s3.amazonaws.com/community-themeco/app/uploads/2016/04/17110514/Capture53.jpg).
2] Please login to your account and revoke the license.
3] After you have revoke the license, you need to re assign the license again to your site using this url: https://www.your-domain.com/. You have to make sure that url you just assign is the same as the one you have in your settings, Settings > General > Site Address
4] Go back to X Addons > Home again, and insert the license again. If you need further assist, please provide us with purchase code so we can take a closer look.
Thanks.

acr0b3rtsParticipantThat didn’t resolve my problem. Couple of points:
1. You didn’t answer my question in the previous reply, regarding notifications on threads. This worries me, as it could appear that you didn’t thoroughly read what I took the time to type.
2. In your reply, which looks very much like an uncosidered cut & paste, you say that I should first revoke my validation. My problem is that I CAN’T validate, so that is not possible.
3. In point 3 of your reply you state that my site should be assined to a url in the form https://www.your-domain.com. 3 things: 1) My site isn’t SSL’ed, so https is not applicable here. 2) My site is a sub-domain (which you would have noticed if you’d logged in with the credentials I supplied). 3) My only other activation (different site) is entered without a URL prefix (no http://site.com, just site.com), so I am of course expecting mysubdomain.domain.com to work. Please let me know if there is anything wrong with using subdomains (would be odd) or not using SSL (would be stupid), as these are the only differences in relation to what I assume is a completely unconsidered cut & paste.
I will add my purchase code in a private reply.
I still feel thoroughly underwhelmed by the assistance I’ve received so far.

RubinKeymasterHey There,
We’ve identified the problem and created a forum post for it here: https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/regarding-404-errors-when-unable-to-validate/
The “easiest” solution would be to add / install the php curl extension if you do not know what this is please get in touch with your hosting provider he can quickly install it for you which will result in a working validation.

acr0b3rtsParticipantThanks for the response and thanks for finally acknowledging that there is a problem. Installing Curl is not an option, as it requires a kernel upgrade on my server and I’m NOT going to do that just to activate a product that I have paid for and am currently unable to use. I already have one instance of X running fine on this server (activated pre WP 4.6 admittedly).
So what is the hard way? And when are you going to solve this problem in X? Requiring perl modules that require kernel upgrades is unreasonable – especially considering the issue is ONLY activation.
And: Seeings as this is a known issue, you could save me and you some time by at least updating the error message, when activation fails.
September 11, 2016 at 7:58 pm #1170607
acr0b3rtsParticipantOK, so I bit the bullet and updated the kernel. Having updated the kernel, I was able to install php5-curl and after a reboot (restarting apache, was not enough) I was able to successfully activate. Problem solved. Thanks for finally pointing me in the right direction. There are lessons to be learned from this thread – I hope they will be taken to heart.
