    Hi,

No too tech-savvy here. Unable to update X-theme, I get the errors in the topic title.

I’m running a child theme and we recently changed the url from brandstoryexperts.com to dev.brandstoryexperts.com while I work on it.

Help me out? Someone here is smarter than me! 🙂 Please? Thank you!

    Hey Jayca,

What domain have you assigned the license to? If you validated your staging domain, you could not update the live site. You must validate your live site. See https://community.theme.co/kb/product-validation/ for more details.

    Thanks.

    Ok, I sort of understand?

We had only one url when I purchased and validated X, the brandtsoryexperts.com. Now we have (and I’m working on) dev.brandstoyrexperts.com. Same exact site, we just moved it over while I keep working on it.

I just want to update X on dev.brandstoyrexperts.com. In a month or less, it will move back over to brandstoyrexperts.com. I also want to be able to update it at that url when updates come out.

How can I VALIDATE TWO URLS (dev.brandstoryexperts.com and brandstoyrexperts.com) with the same license?

Thank you for your patience and understanding if these are REALLY stupid questions 🙂 –

Right now only one site can be validated at a time per license. We’re working on a way to support developer environments under the same license, but this isn’t available just yet. If you revoke a site to change the URL, it will prevent that site from receiving updates.

    Hi again –

Thank you so much for the straightforward answer (even though it frustrates me just a little!). Glad to hear that you’re working on it! 🙂

As a follow-up question (remember, not super tech-savvy!):

    – I want to try some different demo content on my site – I built all 30+ pages on the Integrity without any demo content. I built 90% of it at brandstoryexperts.com, now dev.brandstoryexperts.com.
    – If I install different demo content (just to try out the differences) on the dev. url, will I be able to restore the full 30 pages site to the dev url? Or is all that also “attached” to the original url? It seems like I have the full site available to me at the dev. url, but if I install demo content and don’t like it, I want to make sure I haven’t lost all my work!
    – will I even be able to accurately install the demo content on the .dev url? Or will X not allow it, since the .dev url isn’t the site that is validated with my x license?
    – Finally, IF i install demo content, and it works, and I like it – will I be able to move the dev. site with the demo content back over to the original url when the site is finished? Or, again, will X not allow this because the theme is only validated at 1 url?

THANK YOU! I know you guys have a ton of questions to answer, I appreciate all of your time answering mine!! 🙂

PS to my last question: Please remember that I can’t install the latest update, so if any of the circumstances above require the latest version of X theme (I have 4.3.4), please take that into consideration!

    Hi there,

Thanks for updating. Although you have several questions but they are similar so I am trying to summarize them.

If you import a demo content then your current content might be overridden. So it’s not a wise decision to try a demo on a existing site when you already have some pages or content that you don’t want to lose.

So I’d suggest you to try the demos on a dev site (you can validate the dev site for now and then move the key for live site later) and keep exploring. When you come to a feasible solution with a demo content or your own content then you can proceed to your live site.

Note that you can validate one site at a time with one license. So you can exchange the API Key from dev site to live site as mentioned, just to clarify.

    Hope this explains better.

    Cheers!

    Wait a second … From: https://community.theme.co/kb/demo-content/ :

“It is very important to note that while the importer will not overwrite or alter any of your posts, pages, or portfolio items, your Customizer settings will be altered upon setting up a demo (this is necessary so that we can setup your installation similar to the demo). If you already have your website setup but are still curious to try out this feature, please make sure that you first backup your Customizer settings by going to the Customizer Manager page under Addons.”

But you just told me “If you import a demo content then your current content might be overridden.” ??

So, since I’ve built out 20 pages, I cannot try out a different stack on those 20 pages without DEFINITELY LOSING those 20 pages? How sad. I was really hoping to try a few different stacks, grab some page or section templates, then uninstall demo content and maybe use some of the page or section templates. 🙁

    Thank you for being honest.

    Hi again,

I’m sorry about any confusion. To clarify, the expanded demos will not overwrite anything. If you import a standard demo, it will replace the home page of any other standard demo you’ve already imported. If you create any pages your self from scratch, those will never be affected.

OH I GET IT NOW 🙂 LOL. I can see where my wording may have been a little confusing in the first place. You’re good folks, keep up the good work!

I’m getting this error message when I’m trying to update my theme. I validated the License on my WP Dashboard but I’m getting this error: An error occurred while updating X: Update package not available.

What can I do? I need to update my theme

    Hello There,

If you have properly validated your X site, you can easily do the updates by going to https://your-domain.com/wp-admin/update-core.php or WP > Dashboard > Updates.
Carefully select which plugin or theme you’d like to update and click the update button.

If still you are experiencing a problem. Please go to X Addons > Home and revoke the license (http://prntscr.com/as2kp1).
Please login to your account and re assign the license to your new domain.
And then you need to revalidate your site again by going back to X Addons > Home.
This time, you need to insert the license to be able to validate it again.

Please let us know how it goes.
