I don’t have any featured images set for pages or posts and my grids are currently meant to be presented without images. However, The Grid plugin still appears to be pulling images from the content. The only exception being if a page/post doesn’t have an image as part of it’s content.

I’m hiding images using CSS as the moment, but would much prefer to reduce all the images being called and loaded behind the scenes.

I thought this might be intended behavior, but then I found a post from the developer when responding to a paid customer inquiry asking about the ability for a grid item to not have any images. The response was, “Yes, of course. If your post type doesn’t have any image, then The Grid will not display any image and will still display the available content….”

From that and a few other related comments, my take is that what I’m seeing isn’t intended behavior.

I plan to troubleshoot further, but wanted to reach out to see if there is something I’m overlooking to stop this from occurring.

On a separate note, The Grid documentation provided on your site references version 2.0—which isn’t the version that ships with X. It’s a bit confusing to see options that don’t exist. And since it’s not recommended to use a different version than what ships, it’s frustrating to see the functionality that’s not available. Specifically, the skin building feature—which I’m eager to utilize.

    Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! The grid plugin relies on the skin. It is the skin that displays the image. If you do not want any image, you will need to edit the grid and make sure that it does not display any image. Please provide us an access to your dashboard so that we can take a closer look at your grid and the grid skin that you are using.

The Grid version bundled in the x package from Themeforest may have not been updated yet since we release the latest X version. As long as you have validated X, you should have received automatic updates and should be able to update to the latest version of The Grid plugin since plugin updates were served through our plugin repository. So please make sure that you have validated X and keep tabs on the update notifications.

    Hope this helps.

X is validated, but version 1.4.0 of The Grid is the latest that’s available through your repository. However, the latest version of The Grid is 2.0 and the documentation (updated 10/24/16) has details specific to version 2.0.

With the updates that are occurring, our staging site is frequently being refreshed—so there may be a delay in getting you access to our site. In the meantime, I have no problems with looking into making code adjustments if you can point me in right direction. Is there something that can be copied into the child-theme that can be adjusted to override?

Of course, with the skin builder in version 2.0, none of this will likely be relevant as I should able to build my own skin.

    Hi There,

The Grid 2.1.0 is the latest version of The Grid available for X. We really need to check your settings. Please provide admin credentials on a private reply. And specify which grid you have issue and which image you want to remove. We have to directly edit the skin.

    Hi There,

Please do give us admin rights so we can check. Can you also give us the grid with issue and the page where it is added.

I provided access in my previous reply. With the plugin finally updated, all noted issues have been resolved. At this point, it’s safe to assume that any issues being experienced were due to it being outdated.

So, the one remaining question is why the plugin didn’t display an available update until it was deactivated. Is it a bug that needs to be fixed or is it something in our setup that’s causing a conflict?

    Hi Kevin,

Hard to tell. I will forward your case to our developers so we can check it out if you have spotted something.

I am glad it is working now,

Let us know if you need further help with anything else.

Sorry, I was so focused on The Grid behaving oddly that I forgot the initial purpose of posting—which is to determine how to stop The Grid from automatically loading the first image it finds from each page/post it’s linking to.

Now that I have the Skin Builder, I’ve created a fresh new skin that’s being used for the grids on homepage of our site. I’m also trying to follow directions on how to manually create a skin. However, I’m still not sure where to go or what to do to disable The Grid from loading media from pages and posts.

    Hi there,

Your pages might not have a featured image, but there might be some attachments. And a featured image is just a kind of attachment. I can’t confirm any of this since your given account has no admin capability, I can’t check media library and The Grid in admin. Please grant admin access.

    Thanks!

Account permissions updated, so you should be good to go now.

The site was recently moved over from being in Drupal, where all images were accessed from a file server. So the majorty of images are still manually linked to from that file server and not attached to pages through the media library.

Upon reviewing the 34 or so pages that The Grids are linking to, approximately three or four of them have attachments and the rest that have images within the main page content are just image tags that reference remote files (which are the images that are being loaded). And any pages that don’t have an image within the main content don’t try to load anything. Thus, my conclusion is that The Grid is pulling the first image it finds in the main content of the page it’s linking to.

I’m not sure if this how the The Grid is supposed to function or if it’s considered a bug. But, even if pages were to have attachments or featured images, the default action of loading them doesn’t seem like optimal behavior. Or, at a minimum, it should be an option that can be turned on/off. Because as we do start utilizing the media library and featured images more, we may have to address this again—as our current grid usage is meant to be sans imagery.

    Hi there,

In that case, my guess is true 🙂

I checked your grid and skin and I can’t disable it, I guess it’s part of the feature. The only workaround, for now, is by removing the image attachments from your pages. Or use Essential Grid, that builder has lots of options including cover image settings.

    Thanks!
