    Hello,

I realize as I’m asking, that this is perhaps more of a general ‘WP support’ question. However, I prefer you guys to ‘the masses’ and I’m buying this theme all the time for clients.. so…here goes:

In collaboration, this site’s permalinks were accidentally setup as ‘plain’, and should’ve been set up as ‘post name'(/aboutus, etc.). The site is live, (www.wellingscapital.com) the pages are published, and simply selecting post name, causes and instant missing page error. If this is outside of the scope of your support, can you direct me to where I can find a simple tutorial on how to make this switch? I’m running X theme’s latest version, on a client’s raw Rackspace dedicated server.

    Thank you for any help,

    Drew

    Hi Drew,

Thanks for writing in! This is a general WP question. Please backup your site before trying anything. Changing permalinks on a live site can be simple or complex depending on how your site is currently setup. If your .htaccess file has mod_rewrite active, you can simply change the permalinks structure within the permalinks page in your dashboard. The only issue then would be incoming links from other sites pointing to your original URLs (as well as any hard coded links). This is why it is always best to start with the right permalink setup.

There are possible issues in performance etc, but it will all depend. You can backup your site and try changing your permalinks. Make sure any and all caching is purged and refreshed.

If it doesn’t work, go back to your original settings. If it does not allow you to recover your site, then use your backup.

You may also wish to check with your hosting provider as they maybe able to assist as well, else you may want to contact a dev to assist you or if you are confident, you can research online or use plugins to accomplish your goal.

    Hope this helps – thanks!

    John,

Thanks for your reply. Yeah- the permalinks setting was not my call, and I agree- easier setup correctly from the start. I’m reaching out to some dev friends who have experience with the .htaccess mod_rewrite setup, and extensive knowledge of apache, etc.

Thanks for your help here! Love the theme, and this great support.
