Good afternoon,

it seems that sometimes when I upload pictures onto my site they all look fine on a desktop but some are turned sideways on a mobile!

I have tested this on a few mobiles with the same result.

Hi Jason,

Basically, this is related to iPhone orientation and how WP handles EXIF data. Here are a couple of links which go into more detail about it:
