I am trying to add a goodreads button to a page (via code snippet supplied by Goodreads), however, I am having a problem with the social sharing icons, these icons are disappearing when I hover over them.

I will also mention that there is nothing wrong with the social share buttons on the theme, as you can see here http://prntscr.com/crlqfz , until I add the Goodreads code snippet. (So obviously theres conflict with the GR snippet and social icon).

This is the code snippet I have added in a text element:

             <a target="_blank" href="http://www.goodreads.com/update_status?isbn=0316015849&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.goodreads.com%2Fbook%2Fshow%2F19501"><img alt="Share on Goodreads" border="0" src="http://s.gr-assets.com/assets/badge/goodreads-badge-add-plus-71eae69ca0307d077df66a58ec068898.png" /></a>
            <script src="https://www.goodreads.com/javascripts/widgets/update_status.js"></script>

This is what the GR button will look like once added > http://prntscr.com/crkz4q

The snippet can be sourced here at Goodreads by scrolling to the bottom of the page under β€˜SHARE A LINK’ > http://www.goodreads.com/api

On re-load of the page, (with social icons and GR snippet added), they are all visible, however, as I mentioned earlier, the problem is when you hover over the social share icons they disappear – and only re-appear on page re-load.

    ========

I’ll add that the site / page is not live to the public, so I can not provide a link, however, if a solution is not possible from what I have supplied (besides removing the Goodreads snippet πŸ˜‰ I can provide logins.

    Using:
    WP – ver 4.6.1
    Theme – ver 4.6.4

    Await your response.

    Hey there,

It sounds like you might be having an issue with a third party plugin or script. Regretfully, we cannot provide support for third party plugins or scripts as our support policy in the sidebar states due to the fact that there is simply no way to account for all of the potential variables at play when using another developer’s plugin or script. Because of this, any questions you have regarding setup, integration, or troubleshooting any piece of functionality that is not native to X will need to be directed to the original developer.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    I understand the policy, really, I do…

Although I did say that I knew it was the snippet I added, I thought I was clear in how I communicated my query to you, obviously not. Sorry about that.

The reason I reached out to you was because all I was seeking was some guidance in where to start looking, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered reaching out at all πŸ˜‰

Just a thought, instead of referring to policy, maybe you could have informed me on what you knew and how the X-Theme social share icons work, so I could then take this information to the Goodreads support to solve the issue.

And then you could have been my saviour!

But anyhow, I thought I would experiment my self…
So I removed this part of the snippet

    <script src="https://www.goodreads.com/javascripts/widgets/update_status.js"></script>

    And now it works πŸ™‚

    Thanks for your understanding.

Sorry but I have no idea how the third party script should work. Glad you’ve sorted it out. πŸ™‚
