Is there an option to show the excerpt, or the post style like the index page shows?

This would be a nice feature to add a style drop down when selecting the recent post element when using the visual composer.

If there is another shortcode or way to do this that would be great, as there doesn’t seem to be an option to edit the default template in the wordpress editor.

Unfortunately this isn’t a feature offered by X. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer, or a service like Mircolancer or Tweaky to assist you with this. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities. Hopefully, it will be added sooner or later.

Maybe you can pass it onto the devs and have them add an option in this recent posts shortcode like a checkbox to show excerpt etc.

Then they could use if recent_post_metakey = true

Then show this output if not then show the default output etc…

I’m also very interested in this feature. Would I be causing much trouble if I asked in which file you placed that code? Are you doing it in the text editor of the post, template file, functions file…?

The code given by Lokesh is just part of a shortcode and can’t be just pasted in a file. Here is the complete code you could add to your child theme’s functions.php

I tried that (#64388) – sad to say it didn’t work. No excerpt there (and yes, I added an excerpt to the blogpost I’ve tried this with 🙂 )
