islandmumsParticipantHi guys,
I have inherited a website with X Theme from another webmaster who built a site using a child theme. I have purchased my own licence for the same website so that I can ask for some initial help with figuring some things out. I manage many other sites in WordPress and I am a pretty quick learner, so will get my head around all the tutorials in time properly, but if you have any guidance as to where I should start I would be very grateful. Its my first experience using child themes π
For now, client’s first issue that I have not been able to crack is:
The search function has stopped working. It was working before, but I have asked the previous webmaster to update some things before handover, so I assume something got updated somewhere, and after looking through a number of files I could not see anything related to search anywhere… π
Website URL: http://www.islandmums.com
WP version: 4.3.5
X – Child Theme: Islandmums Version: 1.0.0
Cornerstone version: 1.1.3Thank you for your time, if there is anything else you need to help me please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks again! Lubi

RahulModeratorHi there,
Can you please try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If itβs fixed, youβll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
Let us know how it goes.

islandmumsParticipantHi guys,
Thanks for your message. I have investigated this and none of the plug-ins are affecting the search. My investigation crashed the database as I tried to deactivate more that one plug-in at a time… Took me 1.5 hours to get everything back up and another hour to deactivate plug-ins one at a time… LOL I think its a host issue with max amount of connections, so not a theme issue. Anyway, that’s not for this conversation, just letting you know I did all I could.
I can now confirm that none of the plug-ins are causing this issue. π
What should I try next? Thank you for your time.
Is there any way one of you guys can have a look around to see if there are some fundamental things wrong with the site setup? Like I mentioned before someone else built it, and I have been given the job to maintain it now. Every time I try anything I encounter problems… I have many other sites and no problems, but have no idea where to start looking. I dont mind putting the hours in and rebuilding it if I have to, but would be nice to have a pro cast an eye over it if that is possible.
Thanks again!

ChristianModeratorHey there,
The site is still running an old version of X. You will need to update manually since it is quite an old version. See https://community.theme.co/kb/updating-your-theme-and-plugins/ for instruction. After that, please validate X. Let us know once done.
Thanks.

islandmumsParticipantHey guys, thanks for having a look. I am tempted to just make a clean new install with everything up-to-date and export/import all my posts pages etc
Can you please tell me in order to migrate the Custom Post Types I have (Guernsey/Jersey/Sark they are showing in the Dashboard separately) – do i need to have a child theme or can I use one of the stacks? Is there custom post types support? Any suggestions would be muchly π appreciated.
I cant make any sense of whats there… Every time I try and do something the DT crashes or site has internal errors. I am guessing cause everything is so out of date, its like massaging a corpse LOL
Thanks so much!

RadModeratorHi there,
Do you wish to migrate your existing post types to another post type (merging), or just one to transfer them as is? You can use the tools at Admin > Tools > Export and export your post types, then import it using the same tools on your site’s destination.
Thanks!

islandmumsParticipantHi guys,
Thank you for your message. I have created a new install on this domain islandmums.info and validated the X licence. I am going to rebuild from the beginning so I understand the site, and then move it to islandmums.com when it is ready.
I have tried to export my Custom Post Types as I mentioned in my last message, but I am getting this error see attached.
Can I please check again if there is Custom Post Types support and if you have any documentation to this effect I can have a look at?
Thanks again

ChristianModeratorHey Lubi,
We’re sorry but we do not have support for custom post type migration as that is beyond X’s functionality. Please contact the custom post type plugin or script author or you might want to contact our trusted partners who caters X setup and customization needs. Please see https://community.theme.co/custom-development/
Thank you for understanding.
