    Hi there,

I really enjoy the way you make it possible to overwrite certain codes and markups by copying the files to the child theme in the same hierarchy as required by X. But sometimes I’m a little irritated because I expect my child theme’s file to overwrite X’s original version but it doesn’t then. It seems to me that the only files I can just copy and edit are the ones from the “views” folder, but sometimes I need to make changes to files in the “functions” folder as well, in my current case “social.php”. I searched for related questions and there you advice to copy whole functions from those sources to the functions.php of my child theme. But to be honest: I’m not happy with that! I expect my functions.php to harbour my personal custom functions because over time it would get messy to separate my personal code from the X modifications. It would be so much nicer to keep it the way you realized it with the views, because then one could immediately see and verify what has been customized – just by looking at the file duplicates of X found in the child theme. Am I doing something wrong or is it just not possible to copy ANY file from the X parent theme folder to my child theme and have it inherited with priority over the original theme?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Martin

    Hey There,

Child theme can handle all kinds of files. The only rule is that the files should be in the same folder as the original theme files.

If there’s anything you find not working, we’re always here to help!
