After repeated “are you sure you want to do this?” attempts, I decided to use ftp to upload the theme.

I first unzipped the purchased file which created a folder named x_package.

I then used ftp to upload it to my host wordpress folder inside the themes folder there.

I can see the files in my hosting file manager, but when using the wordpress dashboard to activate the theme is is nowhere to be seen.

Help please.

I just noticed that an error was returned saying the package is broken – “no stylesheet found,” and asking me to delete the package. It says the package is incomplete. I also notice that inside the folders uploaded via ftp there are a ton of zip files. Simply, the easy import method is not working for me. How do I do it via ftp so that it works?

Yea, I figured it out by myself. What I had to upload was the contents of the x.zip file when I extracted the purchased zip file. I uploaded THAT and X appeared as a theme in wordpress. I activated it and validated my license. But now I have a question about all those other tons of zip files. Do I have to upload them via ftp onto the hosting server as well?

Yup, still a serious problem because I can’t get over to the demo content.

Hi there,

Once you unzip x_package, use x.zip file to upload into your WordPress backend (Appearance -> Themes) or you can unzip x.zip file and then upload it into your FTP (/wp-content/themes/) and then activate it through your WordPress backend.

Thanks Darshana, I’m using this for a web development class. The instructor is using an old version of x (2.0). Everything looks completely different. He is also downloading layout htmls and reviewing code for educational purposes. I just bought version 4.6. Is there anywhere I can get an old copy of 2.0 without having to pay full price just to be able to follow along in the course?

Hi there,

We don’t recommend using an older version of X theme as there are lot’s of bug fixes throughout the newer version releases.

The core of X theme remains the same and the major difference is that the X-shortcodes plugin replaced with our newly introduced visual page builder “Cornerstone” plugin.

That is great, but I can’t force the instructor to change from using version 2.0 in his lessons.

I realize that his old version has been superseded and upgraded.

Yes, one of the first things he recommended was getting the shortcodes plugin in order to be able to follow along in his course lectures.

As I said, I just bought 4.6.1 and have no intention of using 2.0. The only purpose of getting it is to be able to follow along in the course.

As you well know, everything has changed and does look different. I’m sure there are bug fixes.

If I can’t get an old version, it will be extremely difficult, if not meaningless, to try to follow along in the course.

I already have 4.6.1 installed and it looks like it will be great, but I want to get the benefit of the learning experience in the web development course.

Hi There,

I guess we need to discuss a few more points before we can actually give you a final advice.

First of all, X Shortcodes, the only thing it did was to add the X-Shortcodes to the Theme.

Cornerstone now has incorporated this function, BUT, you are still able to build websites 100% like before.

I have been a user of X before working here, I believe I have worked with versions prior 2.0

I can´t recall that many differences.

If you want to follow the course, have Cornerstone Installed and activated but simply do not use it.

I Personally, think you should do both. Cornerstone is a really modern tool, when 2.0 was out I would dream of this tool.

Regarding learning websdesign, you will be be able to mix match your content, on Cornerstone you have RAW Elements where you can place your raw codes and shortcodes. But ok, let´s focus on your issue now…

If you could tell us what part is challenging for you on the version differences we might be able to guide you.

But if you are wanting to learn X well, I reccomend you first of all to study a bit about Web Design, User Experience, nothing really deep but some theory will enrich your knowledge.

HTML and CSS.

Loads of CSS on wordpress from user side, you can achieve almost everything with it.

Here is my personal tip, one of the best resources I found around is a YouTube Chanel called DevTips, the guy is brilliant and hilarious.

Regarding X Theme, watch our Knowledge Base, you have ALL SHORTCODE LIST, Customizer Series, Wodpress Series and Cornerstone Series.

I guess that is all from my part, but , let us know details provide screenshots of what you think it is so different and we will advise you.

Thanks. I’ll look at DevTips. Yes, I’ve already taken several courses on HTML and CSS and javascript, and jQuery, and have some experience with jQueryUI and Bootstrap. I’ve done rapid application development with VB on Microsoft Access and have also learned some use of ASP.NET. I’m working on php. I’ll take your advice on not using Cornerstone for the time being. I already have it installed and activated. I was worried because I thought it was the ONLY way I could edit pages. The whole idea of the course is for the instructor to examine and explain code.

So, for example, when instructor downloads review-05.html I can essentially do the same somehow to examine the code?

Would you please clarify about review-05.html, is this suppose to be link to example page?
Is this page was built with shortcodes? if so, you can use shortcodes in raw content element inside CS or you can insert them in text tab of editor using WP page editor.

Wow, sorry, what a typo!
I meant renew-05.html
It is one of the layout demo styles in X.
Our instructor downloaded it to examine and discuss code content.

Sincerly, the best way (and that is your first assignement! 😀 ) would be to Install renew 5 and compare the source code.

But the version available now is made with Cornerstone so I believe will be different from what you have on your Course actually.

You will be able to assemble the same way he did and it will work, because the x-shortcodes are still the same.

Not sure that is good news, but that is how it is…

But if you are thinking about building WordPress Websites, sincerly, dig Cornerstone, I am like you I always wanted to first understand the foundations of everything before going to a great tool, but actually the reserve job work as good and you will be more productive.

If you check the HTML and CSS series from DevTips you will be good to pratice some awesome skills customizing your website elements and really now a days in WordPress, that is almost everything you need from a web designer point of view.

I think the upgrades made everything go server side, so there’s nothing we can see, even if page loaded and we view source code. The whole purpose of looking at the code in the html documents was to learn something about the syntax being used. Anyway, I gave up on that. There’s just NO WAY to follow along when an instructor is using something you can no longer get hold of. I suppose there are some pirate copies out there, but I didn’t want to go that way.

I frankly don’t like Cornerstone or any of those canned web site building tools. Why learn coding at all then?
