CatDouglasParticipantHello,
Originally I was using The Grid Plugin, my tutor asked me to do it without this so I deactivated it, however the issue still occurs which I’ll go into now.
I have created a Page and made it follow template ‘Layout – Portfolio’, as per this walk-through:
https://community.theme.co/kb/portfolios/I also created 3 Portfolio Items in the Portfolio section. None of these display on the Portfolio page, though the page title and the square plus icon with Category menu is present (menu appears when clicked).
I’ve gone through the walkthrough twice and been in touch with my tutor that introduced me to X Theme. At the start of my course I had an issue with uploading Demo Content and so following his video exactly was not possible. One possible reason is because I could not find a ‘Shortcodes extension’ on the Addons page, I looked this up and seemed to understand that shortcodes are included in newer updates so that explains why it’s not there, however I went ahead of the course and did a lot of work on my Homepage. I would prefer not to upload Demo Content (Standard demo Renew 2), so that I do not lose my Homepage, and just resolve the Portfolio Page issue, hopefully with your help.

Rue NelModeratorHello There,
Thanks for writing in! The portfolio items were not being displayed because there might be a JS error or a fatal error on the page. I would recommend that you create a staging site. This is very useful because you can test drive X updates in the staging area, do the customizations and troubleshooting without disrupting your live site. Once everything is perfect, you can easily and flawlessly proceed the update in the live site. To know how to create a staging area, please check out these articles:

CatDouglasParticipantHello,
Sorry if I’m not explaining the situation clearly, could be because it’s a somewhat new area.
I’m working on a website locally whilst following a course that says to use MAMP server. It worked for the tutor in the course video fine using Demo Content as a starting point. I had started my home page without uploading Demo Content, however I went and added several Portfolio Items and a Portfolio Page to sort the Items on (where it will not display).Do I still need to create a staging site, considering it’s supposed to be a normal way to do things?
Thanks,

Paul RModeratorHi Cat,
Please make sure you have added a featured image to your portfolio items.
Can you take a screenshot of your portfolio items in the backend and portfolio settings.
Thanks
December 22, 2016 at 7:32 am #1301664
CatDouglasParticipantYes, I have already had a feature image for every Portfolio Item. Here is a screenshot attached.

CatDouglasParticipantAnd another.

ChristianModeratorPlease give us a full screenshot of your Portfolio Item Settings and also the Portfolio Page Settings.
It would be best to copy your site over to an online staging site though so we could login and check. You could setup a free test site at pantheon.io
Thanks

CatDouglasParticipantOkay I’m looking into Pantheon, but I would prefer to keep editing the local version, so I’ll duplicate your suggested actions locally.

CatDouglasParticipantPantheon wants me to start a new WordPress site and install. How do I get my local database and wp site up to it, I have watched the Pantheon video.

CatDouglasParticipantI’m going to upload the screen captures for now as requested:
1 is one particular Portfolio Item settings (a clone of any of the others with different content).
2 is the Portfolio Page settings (next post).Thank you,
CatDecember 22, 2016 at 12:17 pm #1301920
CatDouglasParticipant2 is the Portfolio Page settings.

LelyModeratorHello Cat,
Your settings seems correct. We really need to see your site to check where the issue is coming from. For migration please see this guide:https://community.theme.co/kb/cornerstone-migration/

CatDouglasParticipantOkay, I have a Pantheon dev site url:
http://dev-catdouglaswp.pantheonsite.io/
entered into the Migrate plugin on my locally-hosted WP site as ‘//dev-catdouglaswp.pantheonsite.io/’I’m not understanding this instruction:
Under that also in the replace section, you should enter the path to where your new site is. For example /home/sites/yournewsite.com/public_html/, this should be the root of your new install, so if your site was in subdirectory it might be /home/sites/yournewsite.com/public_html/subdir/
My ‘new’ site isn’t anywhere, it was a new WP site installed on Pantheon online, not locally. What am I not understanding?
Thanks. -
