The backend for Portfolio page allows the user to limit the results by picking categories on the “portfolio settings” panel which is cool. The user can refine their search and play with the grid using choices from my choice of one Parent and all its children. Exactly what I want.

However, when the user then clicks on one of the projects (x_is_portfolio_item is true), all the categories the item is in are displayed by x_integrity_entry_meta. How can I limit that display to the same category choices I made on the page portfolio settings?

I’ve been searching and testing for way longer than I want to admit. All solutions I’ve tested have either ended up showing all terms for the query (exactly as it is now) instead of a subset, or ignoring the query and showing all possible categories that match the portfolio-category ID.

Any pointers on where I can look for guidance?

Thanks for writing in! Regretfully this isn’t a feature offered by X. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer to assist you with this. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities. Thanks for understanding. Take care!
