I have a site with a lot of products and multiple variations and I am using a sidebar widget (woocommerce layered nav filter) to filter by color. Everything works as expected however, it shows every single color (child and parent attributes) in a dropdown which looks sloppy and would give unintended results if a child attribute is clicked.

What I want to do is list 6-8 parent attributes in that dropdown that when clicked will filter out all child attributes variations under the parent if possible.

i.e. T Shirts available in Black, Solid Black, Black Triblend would be created as variations with each color set up as a child attribute of the parent attribute “Black Styles” or something of the like.

In this example, Black Styles would be the parent attribute in the sidebar dropdown and child attributes such as black, solid black and black triblend would still be included in the filtered results but not listed in the dropdown.

I already have all of the attributes set up as child and parent but I can not figure out how to prevent hundreds of attributes that may not produce results in a given category from being included in that dropdown of the widget.

I know this may not exactly fall into the scope of theme support as there is no issue with the theme but I was hoping after researching everywhere that you may have a better grasp of what I’m looking to accomplish and let me know if it is possible. All theme and plugins are up to date and wordpress is updated. PHP version 5.6 I’m still working on it but you can see what I mean on the following link: Team Sports Direct

Thank you in advance for any assistance or advice you can provide me!

    Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! To resolve your issue, please make sure that you have setup the variations correctly. Please do check out the WooCommerce documentation for further information:

And regarding your Layered nav filter, you might want to check out this links:

Or perhaps a 3rd party plugin might help:
