    Hello,

I was going to add a sidebar to my blog, but when I go the WordPress Page Settings for my Blog page, the “template” dropdown is entirely missing.

Please let me know how I can get the dropdown back. Thanks!

    Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! Since you have your global layout as fullwidth, you can not set a sidebar. I would recommend that you change this setting in the customizer, Appearance > Customize > Layout & Design > Content Layout. You need to set it to Content Left, Sidebar Right or Sidebar Left, Content Right setting. Once you have set it, the blog index will then inherit that setting.

    Hope this explains it.

    Hello,

I tried adjusting the Content Layout in the Customizer as you suggested, and this did allow me to show the sidebar on my blog page. Thank you.

However, the page “Template” dropdown option is still missing when I go to Edit Page in WordPress.

I mention this because my next goal is to add an image to the top of the blog page, and I’ve tried a number of things that haven’t worked properly (custom CSS, setting a Featured Image, etc). Maybe this is because my blog page is using a Template style that does not allow a header image, I’m not sure. But either way, I’d like to have access to those Template options in the WordPress Edit Page section. Let me know if there’s a way to get those to appear. Thanks!

Update: I figured out how to get an image above the blog via CSS, but the “template” dropdown option is still missing in the WordPress Edit Page settings for the Blog page. Let me know if there’s a way to get that to appear. Thanks!

    Hi Nate,

The Page Template option does not appear in the page that is assigned as the post/blog page since it is using a specific template and getting into changing the template would require some customization which is beyond the support we could offer.

I have checked your Blog page and the sidebar seems to be displaying fine. See screenshot attached.

Ok. The reason I asked is that I don’t want any page to have a sidebar except the blog page. Now that I’ve selected “Content Left, Sidebar Right” in the Content Layout in the Customizer (in order to put a sidebar on the blog), every page is now outfitted with a sidebar… so I’ve had to go in and manually change the template for every other page. Not the end of the world, but a bit odd since the sidebar really only makes sense on the blog. Is there a way to make the default page template “Layout – Fullwidth” while still allowing the blog to have a sidebar?

    Hi There,

There is, but that would require a custom development. I’m afraid that is the correct settings, the pages should have using a no sidebar template in first place when you create it.

    Thanks.
