    There are certain things I would like to do e.g. 100% full height which Cornerstone is incapable of doing. Instead of going into the code, I was thinking of installing the full version of VC. Will this work? Will it mess up the theme?

    Visual Composer is totally compatible with X theme. Feel free to go ahead with the full version.

    Absolutely. We always recommend having a child theme for any kind of customizations to the theme : https://community.theme.co/kb/how-to-setup-child-themes/
