I have purchased my first copy of X (no doubt there will be many more). I am just getting to grips with it, there is much to learn. But the first question I have is regarding multiple unique portfolios.

Is there a way to make portfolios unique by page even though they share the same categories. For example I would like to create a separate portfolio for different countries a UK page, a USA page etc. On that page the categories may be the same for example, beaches or lakes etc.

I have selected different portfolio pages on each instead of the default, but I am getting those from both pages come up on the same page. At the moment I am just modifying one of your demo sites to suit my purpose so I haven’t really done much yet, just feeling my way around.

Is there a way to achieve what I want?

    Many thanks

    Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! Regretfully, at this time I am not entirely certain what it is you would like to accomplish based on the information given in your post. If you wouldn’t mind providing us with a little more clarification on what it is you’re wanting to do (a link to a similar example site would be very helpful, or perhaps some screenshots), we’ll be happy to provide you with a response once we have a better understanding of the situation.

Meanwhile, please check out our knowledge base on how you can make the most of the portfolio page and the portfolio items: https://community.theme.co/kb/portfolios/, https://community.theme.co/kb/meta-options-portfolio-items/

Please let us know how it goes.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the link, but I had read that before I started :).

I can’t find an example on a brief trawl of the internet and I haven’t done anything much myself yet so I will attempt to explain a bit better hopefully. I will use photography as an example although in truth I have several ideas for several sites.

Let us assume that I take photos in different countries (USA, UK and Spain) and I always take photos of beaches, lakes and skies.

Then we will assume that I want a portfolio page for each country, 3 pages one for USA, one for the UK and one for Spain (“UK Portfolio”, “USA Portfolio” and “Spain Portfolio”).

I only want to show photos from the UK on the UK page, Photos from the USA on the USA page and Photos from Spain on the Spain page.

I create several portfolio items each set to have the correct portfolio parent (i.e “UK Portfolio”, “USA Portfolio” or “Spain Portfolio”).

As I previously said, all photos (in all countries) will have a category of either beaches, lakes or skies.

What I want to achieve is to select a country from the menu, let’s say the “UK” which will select the correct portfolio page (no problem with that).

When the UK page loads I only want to see photos (items in my portfolio) of locations from the UK and if for example I click on “Beaches” to sort by category I only want to see Photos of UK beaches.

Similarly with the USA and Spain I would only want to show portfolio items that had been set with the portfolio parent as being the portfolio page for that country.

Is that possible without having different categories for each page.

I hope that is clearer, as I am loving the theme so far (still lots to learn) and want to crack on and create my sites.

Many Thanks, if I do find an example I will also post that here too although I am hoping that the text is clear enough this time as it seems it to me :).

    Kind Regards

    Hi there,

Thanks for clarifying. You can differentiate them only by category like this. Unfortunately there is no other way to show them in such way for the same category.

    Hi there,

Oh, OK, no problem I can work around it. May I suggest that you look into it as a feature enhancement for a later date.

You could probably do it easy enough by having a Parent (Portfolio page) category and portfolio item categories.

For example, The Portfolio page would be defined with a Parent Category (USA for example in my case) and then the Portfolio Item would have it’s own set of categories.

Then, on displaying (or sorting) a given page the database SQL query would just look for everything with the parent category defined on the assigned Portfolio Page and the portfolio item categories that are already defined on the page (or the parent category and the sort category if clicking on one).

We certainly appreciate the feedback! This is something we can add to our list of feature requests. This way it can be taken into consideration for future development. All of these items are discussed with our team internally and prioritized based on the amount of interest a particular feature might receive. Thanks!

Thank you, I appreciate you have to prioritise, I do however think it would be a very nice addition and fairly unique. I think you would find that if it existed as a feature it would be well used :). So, thank you for considering it.
