Can I cut custom CSS from customizer and paste into style.css into my child theme currently in a git repo?

    I am using Renew.

What is the best practice around this idea?

    Hi Nilesh,

    Yes that is fine.
Just note of the CSS specificity here:https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2007/07/css-specificity-things-you-should-know/ If there are some custom CSS that is not working, it might be because customizer settings might be overwriting it. The article discuss the details.

    Hope this helps.

I have new install of wordpress and X theme. No modifications or changes to anything. Attempting to upload child theme and it will not work. Keep getting error message: The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

    Hi @theaalexander

Thanks for writing in but it’s not related to this thread at all. Kindly open a new thread and specify your problem. And regrading your issue, perhaps you are trying to upload through FTP and there is an issue with your zip compression. You can try uploading through WordPress dashboard. Let us know a bit details on your new thread if you still face the issue.

    Cheers!

Does this mean I do not need to worry about specificity if I blank out the customizer custom CSS and put all things in style.css child theme?

Apart from the customizer custom CSS, is there anything that might override child style.css?

    Hi @lvnilesh

If you have some small tweaks, I’d suggest to use under Custom > CSS in the Customizer. But if you have very long CSS then you might want to move to Child Theme’s style.css.

Now the fact is, if you have some CSS that’s overriding Customizer settings then you need to use !important tag for those. For example if you set background color of Navbar with CSS, it might not work because it’s already within the Customizer settings. So let’s stick with Customizer CSS unless you have bunch of CSS.

    Cheers!

    Hi,

Yes, you can move it all in your child theme’s style.css.

    Thanks
