Craig DParticipantHello,
I have a number of podcasts successfully created, displayed, and transmitted to iTunes. But, I need to link each one to a page displaying the text transcript of the recording. I tried simply adding a link in the podcast post to the text transcript page, and the link appears to be accepted on the podcast post, but when I view the podcast page, the link shows up as regular text in the podcast description, not as a link that can be clicked to switch to the transcript page.
Is there a way to make such a link? I’m just trying to provide a way for people to read what is said on the recordings, rather than listening, if they prefer. My site logon credentials are available in questions I sent in last week, if you need to take a look.
Thanks,
CD

RupokMemberHi there,
Thanks for writing in! Is it your site? – http://straitgateradio.com
I am not sure where you have used the links to podcast since I can’t find such page on your site. Would you clarify a bit and point us the right site?
Cheers!

RadModeratorHi there,
I can see them as links, where does it display as plain text? Please provide a screenshot. And no one can control how the information are processed when it comes to feed readers. It can decide to convert HTML content to plain texts.
Thanks!

Craig DParticipantHello again,
All my podcasts are self-generated, not from any external feed source. So, I am NOT trying to convert podcasts from a feed source into text documents.
I am simply trying to provide on my web site a way for users to either listen to podcasts or read
text transcripts of the audio recordings. After producing the audio podcast, I will produce a separate page of text so a person can read what’s said in the recording, rather than listen to it.
I just need to link the audio podcast to the text transcript page, so users don’t have to hunt for the text transcript.I have tried to link the podcast as shown here:
http://www.screencast.com/users/VikingDriver/folders/Default/media/1da00dd5-59f7-4bce-a764-cf565382a5e5The link code shows up on the Posts page of the podcast titled StraitGateRadio Introduction Podcast as shown here:
http://www.screencast.com/users/VikingDriver/folders/Default/media/a91bba0a-885a-4afa-b955-2d3c9d688ecdAnd the page titled Experimental I’m trying to link to is shown here:
http://www.screencast.com/users/VikingDriver/folders/Default/media/49865ced-0c83-4b52-8288-f48ae38fc368.The setup of the link appears to work, because you can see it in the description of the Podcast on the Posts page, but you can’t click on it. It’s just gray text like the other parts of the description.
Is there a way to do what I need to do? I’m trying not to have to have the user go through multiple steps to get to the text transcript of the recording, if they’d rather read than listen to the recording. When they see the podcast they’re interested in on the Listen Here (Posts) page, I want them to be able to choose right there whether to listen, or be taken to the text page by clicking on a link to the transcript page of that podcast.
Thanks,
CD

RadModeratorHi there,
I see, you can enable Full content option in customizer ( Admin > Appearance > Customizer > Blog > CONTENT > Full Post Content on Index ). It’s displayed as plain text by default as part of excerpt.
Thanks!

Craig DParticipantEureka! It worked. Thanks so much. Here’s a detailed look at how Linking a Podcast (on a Post Page) worked out – so others may benefit:
1. First you set Appearance/Customize/Blog/Content/Full Post Content on Index in the Admin of X as instructed by Support.
2. On the Post of your podcast, go into the editor by just clicking the name of the post page. Then use the Link tool (above edit page) and click the page you want to link to, entering the Text you want people to click to activate the link – for example “Click Here to switch to the TEXT of the podcast”, and click the box that says open the link in a new tab (see input box here:)
http://www.screencast.com/users/VikingDriver/folders/Default/media/6ccc5dcc-6f1f-41d0-ad90-b0b45581d3a6
After this is done, something like this should appear in the editor page for your podcast post: Click here to Switch to the TEXT of this podcast where the URL for the page you want to switch to is shown – in this case the Experimental page. See example here:
http://www.screencast.com/users/VikingDriver/folders/Default/media/64dab90f-3c6c-48c0-9034-0c5ca8c37cea
3. Then go to the page displaying your podcasts, and test whether the link is working. The “Click Here to switch to the TEXT of the podcast” text should be highlighted, and when you put the cursor on it, the pointing icon appears. When you click the highlighted text, the page displaying the podcast transcript will appear. To see the link on the example podcast click this URL:
http://www.screencast.com/users/VikingDriver/folders/Default/media/e5d20b81-f922-4d2e-a1be-d6e5b0e6eab0.
4. A new tab is opened, and the transcript of the podcast (which of course, you have to produce on a page of its own) appears as shown here:
http://www.screencast.com/users/VikingDriver/folders/Default/media/49865ced-0c83-4b52-8288-f48ae38fc368.This was all done experimentally, but, as you can see, we’re now ready to go live with our podcast site.
Success to all, and many thanks to X Support,
CD
