iTurtleParticipanthi there,
i found this thread:
https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/icon-3-sidebar/
but could not reopen it.
i wonder where the setting in the theme is which stefanie is referring to with a screenshot at the very end. maybe it is gone due to a theme update?i would love to have the kategories widget in a sidebar on the blog page of my site:
http://seminarhaus-ohlenbusch.de/aktuelles/i cannot figure out how to activate the sidebar only on that one page. maybe there is another way to add widgets to that page?
thanks a lot! best regards, kai

ChristopherModeratorHi there,
Please select one of page templates with sidebar under Customize -> Layout and design.
Follow this link to add custom sidebar : community.theme.co/kb/unlimited-sidebars
You can use blank templates to make pages full width.Hope it helps.

iTurtleParticipanthi christopher,
thanks for your fast reply!i set “page templates with sidebar under Customize -> Layout and design”.
even though this will apply to all my pages it won’t break my design?i already created a custom sidebar like described in your link. at the end the article says
“there’s only one last step, visit the page/pages you set your sidebar to show on and you should see your new custom sidebar with widgets.”
but that is my problem still. where to i activate the sidebar for only the one page (blog).
i found a setting in the sidebar panel “enable sidebar on blog index page”. activated it. no change. no sidebar.or does it not work in icon?thanks again for your help! kai

RupokMemberHi there,
Sorry for the confusion. As you are using Icon, the normal sidebar is not available on this particular stack since there is already a fixed sidebar. Kindly see this reply – https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/icon-3-sidebar/#post-4118
Cheers!

RupokMemberHi there,
I was not sure what you are really facing to get this. It’s under Icon Page Settings – http://prntscr.com/bvbgp6
If you can’t see this; make sure to check from Screen Options – http://prntscr.com/bvbhhe
(Let’s toggle the checkbox if already set).
Cheers!

iTurtleParticipantthanks rupok! i just can’t find it on my page. the screen options are activated. it is a blog page not a “normal” page. might this be the reason?
i also found a setting in the sidebar panel “enable sidebar on blog index page”. activated it. no change. no sidebar.or does it not work in icon?
thanks again! kaiJuly 20, 2016 at 4:22 pm #1095924
RadModeratorHi there,
Are you referring to posts page? That feature is only applicable for the standard page because posts page doesn’t use page templates.
Please utilize the page instead of posts page. Please provide a screenshot of the page settings you’re currently referring.
Thanks!

iTurtleParticipanthi rad,
yes, a posts page. sorry if blog page was the wrong description. i thought it was the same…
now the problem is more clear maybe. especially on a posts page i need the widgets which allow for filtering only posts with certain keywords. so i really need a way to add these widgets to the posts page. here the link again:
http://seminarhaus-ohlenbusch.de/aktuelles/
or any other way of adding these widgets to the posts page if available.
thanks again! best regards, kaiJuly 20, 2016 at 9:26 pm #1096340
Rue NelModeratorHello There,
Thank you for the clarifications! To be able to have a sidebar in your blog index, http://seminarhaus-ohlenbusch.de/aktuelles/, please go to your customizer, Appearance > Customize > Blog > Layout and select the “Use Global Content Layout”. As of the moment, you have set it to fullwidth and that is why the sidebar is not showing in the right side.
Hope this helps.

iTurtleParticipanthi rue nel,
that did the trick! thanks a million! and it looks good in combination with the existing layout 🙂
what bugs me a little is that i do not understand why.
why is the sidebar now only visible on the posts/blog page and not on the others?
what is the difference between fullwidth and global content layout?
i am so glad it is possible. had a hard time to find out how.
best regards, kaiJuly 21, 2016 at 9:39 am #1097096
ChristianModeratorThe Global Content Layout option uses the Content Layout option in Appearance > Customize > Layout and Design. Could you give us details of the other pages where the sidebar is not showing?
Thanks.

RupokMemberHi there,
You need to use “Fullwidth Layout” for the pages you don’t want to show sidebar. When you are setting sidebar layout from Customzier, it should show on every pages that has sidebar template or default template. So make sure to set fullwidth tempalte for them.
Hope this makes sense.

iTurtleParticipanthi rupok,
thanks! i use the icon stack (see above).
the only page layout showing a sidebar is “default template”.
all layout templates (also “layout – content left, sidebar right”) result in:
“Hey There
Because of Icon’s unique layout, this template is unavailable in this Stack. Please switch to another Stack if you need to make use of this feature. Thanks!”right now i am using the “blank – container | header, footer” and there is no sidebar.
shall i still apply “full width” to all my pages which should not show the sidebar?
best regards, kai
