    Hello! Brian here.

I recently purchased the X Theme from Envato, and have been running into a LOT of issues trying to get it installed properly. I have watched videos, read posts on sites, emailing my hosting company (eApps.com), and here’s where I am currently.

    01. Having Access to all the files on your hosted space.
It was painful getting WordPress installed, but it’s there, and I did it without having to get assistance from the hosting company. But, when I tried to upload the “x.zip” file while inside of WordPress’ install theme area I get the infamous “uplad_max_size” error, and that I should locate and modify the php.ini file, to allow me to upload the theme. I’ve looked and looked, and found nothing. I found an article online discussing that most shared hosts hide that from users, and recommended that you can just create one in the root directory. Tried this, and still nothing. I even tried to SSH into my website so I could see if I could see it from there, and I cannot get into my website from SSH either. I know the passwords work because I can get into it from other ways, but just not through SSH. So much for trying to modify that…

    02. PHP Version.
I was not aware that a) I wasn’t running the latest version of PHP, and that I was also on a 10-year old platform with my host. I’ve talked with them, and I’m moving to an up-to-date server with up-to-date software. This switch/upgrade has just taken place this past Wednesday (7/20/2016). The PHP version I originally had was 4.something, and I’ve been upgraded to 5.6 on the new server. I was trying to manually install the X Theme, and it came back that I needed PHP 5.3 or higher. Did it say that on the Envato site?!? I don’t remember seeing that at all…

    03. Manual Installation VIA FTP.
So, I unzipped the “x.zip” file, and uploaded it where the instructions on Theme.co’s website says to put them. Now I need to enter my Envato Purchase code. I find the file, open it up, and go to copy and paste the code in. It comes back with a: “Uh oh. We couldn’t check if this license was valid.” and a link to “Details”. Clicked on Details, and it took me to my Theme.co account, and there’s the code number I was given, and I had to enter from INSIDE Theme.co’s website. I registered my main domain where it’ll eventually live, and also listed my development area, just in case. Still, nothing.

I will be talking with my hosting provider again today, to see just what is going on, but this is the most difficult install I’ve ever had to do. And NO, I will NOT be paying Envato to install it for me. I paid for the theme, and I have it, but installing it shouldn’t be this difficult. Can someone at Theme.co please send me a working purchase code (without me having to purchase a new one), or get in front of a keyboard while I’m on the phone with you to see what’s happening at YOUR end when I go to send the purchase code I have? I haven’t (and have never had access to my knowledge) to change the php.ini file. I am looking to re-design my site, and I want to have a REAL blog rather than a bunch of pages I made by hand attached to the “BLOG” link in the nav on my site.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Brian K. James // daibutsumusic.com

    Hello Brian,

    Thanks for writing in!

1] Upload max error were set by your hosting. We couldn’t do anything about it since we only provide the files or the x.zip file. Even if you are just using Twenty Sixteen theme or any other, you will have problems later on when you upload an image for your post that may have a bigger filesize other than what is being set as the maximum file that you can upload.

2] We at Themeco only follows what is the standards being set by WordPress. With WordPress 4.5, it has the minimum requirement of at least 5.6. You can find it all the basic requirements for WordPress here: https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

3] Once you have install X, you can use it right away even without validation. You only need to validate if you want to install the bundled X plugins and want to easily update via automatic updates in your dashboard. To properly validate your site, please do the following:
1] Please login to your account and assign the license. You need to assign the license to your site using this url: https://www.example.com/. You have to make sure that url you just assign is the same as the one you have in your settings, Settings > General > Site Address
2] Go back to X Addons > Home, and insert the license code. Please make sure that there are no empty spaces in the license code when you copy and paste it.

And please review the changes that we made on how you are going to validated your X theme because we made a big change in the process. Please check it out here: https://community.theme.co/kb/product-validation/

Now, if you are experiencing errors when validating, it could be that your server is blocking the connection to Theme.co. To be able to resolve this, please ensure that your server is not blocking any outside connection to theme.co. For more validation and connection issues and troubleshooting, please check it our knowledge base here: https://community.theme.co/kb/connection-issues/

After reviewing the information provided above, I would try checking with your hosting provider on this particular issue as it sounds like something related to your setup is causing this. Typically, this is due server configuration problems (i.e. underpowered, traceroute issues, packet loss, permissions errors, et cetera). Additionally, your host will be able to diagnose things much better due to the fact that they have a more complete view of your account and can work behind the scenes with you. If the problem you are experiencing persists after working with your host, don’t hesitate to let us know and we will be happy to assist you. Any relevant information that you can share with us from your host is also greatly appreciated as it will help us to better ascertain the source of the problem.

    Thank you for your understanding.
