Scott MSpectatorHello hi!
Curious about your hidden content feature in cornerstone. What is google bot actually seeing if I hide certain sections of my page on mobile or desktop?
Mobile sites are generally supposed to be faster and filled with less content. I’m assuming that the hidden mobile feature completely eliminates my hidden pics/sections/videos from loading?…thus making my actual mobile site smaller in MB size?
I would hope that’s how it works but let me know what is actually happening to hidden content. Cool feature none the less!
thanks!

ChristianModeratorHey Scott,
Google will see that the content is part of responsive web design and will not affect SEO.
The contents will still be loaded so you must use this feature sparingly or plan out your content display wisely and remember to optimize all your images.
Hope that helps. π

Scott MSpectatorHi thanks, not sure what you mean by “will not affect the SEO”.
Are u saying hidden content gets crawled as if it’s showing on the page?

LelyModeratorHi Scott,
Yes. It can be crawled. It is natural.Google can crawl both mobile and desktop elements and can detect difference of hidden content from mobile view and desktop view. Please check this link: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31031232/different-hidden-content-for-mobile-seo
Hope this helps.

Scott MSpectatorHi, ya so I read that article. My question doesn’t seem to be getting answered.
If my content is hidden, it basically means I don’t want Google or anyone to see it.
Let’s say I hide a huge article about lobsters, as well as write SEO for it. Let’s say I hide it on all devices. Will Google crawl my lobster article and rank it, even though it’s not visible.
I need to know how Google reads and interprets hidden content in all senarios. Maybe the content will only show on tablets and nothing else. It wouldn’t make sense for Google to crawl content that isn’t visible. Please pass this on, as the answers given are way too vague.
Thanks.

JoaoModeratorHi There,
Both answers are quite clear and state that google wonΒ΄t consider hidden content.
If hiding text using, for example, display:none; on the mobile view then you can expect that block of text not to contribute to the rankings on Mobile SERPS, Google Analysis’s content in both Mobile and Desktop meaning you actually rankings will vary depending on which device is being used as it be able to established which content is viewable or triggable (Google has been doing this for years due to cloaking of data using display:none;)
There is also a lot of content spread on the web relative to this subject considering this is a common practice not just on X Theme or WordPress. A quick google search and you will be able to find a lot of information about it.
Hope that helps
Joao

Scott MSpectatorAlight, ya I wanted to ask u because I don’t know how ur theme is set up.
And no those answers weren’t clear. “Not affect SEO” and “CAN be crawled” made absolutely no sense at all. Those statements needed to relevant to something. I was just guessing to make it make sense and relevant
Thanks
