Helen TParticipantHi all,
I’ve had the X Theme since one of the original incarnations (3 years now) and I’ve been very happy with it for most of that time. A few weeks ago however, my functions.php file was deleted after a theme update AND a new child theme was created in the update, screwing up the child theme I use. My dev fixed the issue only for it to happen again a week later. She fixed it again using a copy she had on a local drive.
Yesterday, my site white screened. Again, my dev fixed it.
We have sucuri installed and it doesn’t seem like hackers. So there are a couple of issues going on:
1. functions.php deleting for no apparent reason + white screen behaviour
2. a new child theme being created when I update the theme. The logs show nothing unusual. Help? Thoughts?
Thank you!
Helen

Helen TParticipantNotes from my developer:
Website issues part 1:
occurred three times between October 4 and October 19. She believes this happened after I initially updated the X theme.
– site was up but styling was way off
– she looked in the back-end of the site. somehow, the X theme was active, not the X child theme
– There was a notice saying the X child theme was missing a style.css stylesheet and could not be used
– she checked the site out via FTP, and the child theme was missing the functions.php file
– she re-uploaded my copy of the functions.php file
boom, everything was back to normal
– But she has no idea how the functions.php file deleted itself? She installed Sucuri to keep an eye on any file changes (October 14)
Website issues part 2:
October 18, the site was down
She took a look, and it was a totally different issue
The site only showed a white screen. WP-Admin was not accessible
– she logged into Cpanel, and looked at the website’s database via PHPMyAdmin
– In the database (wp_options table), she changed the stylesheet value to x, instead of x-child-theme
… meaning she changed it to the parent theme
– Then she could access the site via the admin, but the styling was off
– she looked at the child theme, and as far as she could see, everything was there
– she re-activated the child theme via the wp-admin
things went back to normalObviously this can’t keep happening. My site has broken 4 times in the last two weeks! Since updating X Theme earlier this month.
Why would this be happening?

JoaoModeratorHi There,
It is extremely unlikely (to don“t use the word impossible) that is related to X.
Your website missing style, that can be explained because there was some changes on the Child Theme Structure, but the Child time would not be installed alone.
You need to perform a Child The Update.
https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/child-theme-updates/
But X Update will not : Install a new child theme / Delete your functions.php
I would ask the developer to check if your website suffered some hacking attack or malware.
Let us know if you need further help
