addwebtodayParticipantI went into Appearance > Customize > Footer and tried to copy/paste some footer html into the text field. The customizer preview blinked and refreshed, but I didn’t see the new changes reflected there. I clicked save & publish anyway, thinking the preview is a bit finicky there to begin with. I exited X Customizer and returned to verify changes were saved. Old text/html wass still displayed there, as if the new footer content wasn’t saved at all.
I noticed WP core was running on 4.3.X, X Theme on 4.6.1, and plugins were also far out of date. WP Dashboard was displaying PHP warning for unsupported and vulnerable version.
Backed up site and updated WP core to 4.6.1, X Theme to 4.6.2, and all plugins to latest versions (W3TC – including vulnerability patch, WordFence, and an SEO plugin). PHP warning was still there, because of it being a host issue. Tried to edit footer content just as before and the issue was still present.
Is this likely a PHP issue? Please advise. Any help would be appreciated.

Rue NelModeratorHello There,
Thanks for providing the information. Since you have installed a caching plugin W3 Total Cache and WordFence, please clear your plugin cache before testing your site. This can cause all the site changes to not take place on the front end. It will eventually show up when the cache regenerates, but it’s not ideal if you’re looking to see your changes immediately. Caching plugins are best to turn on only when you’ve finished building the site.
Hope this explains it briefly.

addwebtodayParticipantHi Rue,
Thanks so much for the response. I thought the same as you and thought it was a frontend caching issue when I first tried diagnosing the cause. However, wiping W3TC and disabling WordFence made no difference in the problem: when saving changes and then immediately revisiting Appearance > Customize > Footer, the old text/html was still present. Clicking save/publish does not actually save the new text/html in the backend.

Rue NelModeratorHello There,
Thanks for the updates! I have tried every single caching clearing feature in your site and still no effect. It’s either the customizer is not saving or there is something going on the create the issues. You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
And by the way, X 4.6.4 and Cornerstone 1.3.3 are now available! This release contains several bug fixes and we’re quite excited about the new features, so be sure to check out the changelog. Please do update to the latest version. After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.
Please let us know how it goes.

addwebtodayParticipantI went ahead and updated X and cornerstone to their latest versions as recommended. I think what was frustrating to me was this bit right here after 3 responses from Theme Co:
It’s either the customizer is not saving or there is something going on the create the issues.
This simply repeats/confirms what I had said in the original post. This was never a frontend caching issue; the customizer was simply not saving changes. I’m conducting some plugin testing to help determine the cause and will share the response when I get to the bottom of it.
